Default Most Well Produced Albums.

Gomez - Bring it On

I dug this one out from the bottom of my CD stack about two weeks ago and listened to it on my headphone. There is so much stuff going on all over the place, but it's just so perfect. The panning, the equalizations, the timbres, the vocal harmonies, the micing, the arrangements, it's all so perfect.

I really like the way these albums came out sounding:

Chevelle - Wonder What's Next
QOTSA - SFTD
Weezer - Maladroit

Maybe I just imagined it, but on PJ Harvey's Rid Of Me... during Missed I think, I swore I could hear her head move while she was singing.

Overall, it sounds great. It has a 'classic rock' feel to it. In some songs though, like '...Millionaire', the drums are too much in the **********. That's a shame, cause the drums = on of the best parts on the album.

That album sounds real good. I think most of the drumming on it is at a fairly good level, although, you're right. Millionaire's drums are in the ********** much.

If there's one album's production/mix/engineering that i dislike, its the Foo Fighters' 'One by One'. Its got Good Songs, but it sounds like crap.

There are a lot of albums which I really love listening to from a production standpoint - and the list keeps changing and morphing ... but lately ...

Sp - Adore
Radiohead - Ok Computer
The Roots - Things Fall Apart
Led Zeppelin - IV Symbols
The Beatles - Sgt Peppers Lonley Hearts Club
The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds
Norah Jonews - whatever her new album is called (shameful I know, but so fuckin sweet sounding)
Che Fu - The Navigator
Shapeshifter - cant remember the name of the album presently
Goldenhorse - again can't recall the name, but some of the most amazing mastering I've ever heard
Massive Attack - Mezzanine

plus heaps of that old Mowtown stuff like The Supreme's 'Baby Love' single ... so smooth

I could go on, and on, and on ...

strange how so many people on this board rate Timabaland as a producer, but no one has mentioned him in this thread (thankfully ... the dude uses Fruity Loops to make his beats for chrissakes)

you know, i really like whomever produces belle and sebastian. everything seems in perfect order and instruments become more powerful at the appropriate times. however sometimes they mix songs so during the lyric-less middle codas the volume goes way up. it's annoying

anyhow my favorite production work is abbey road.

While I am not retracting the Great Three of album production by any means, it's striking me as I listen to my Left Banke anthology how immaculately produced it is. It's quite well-done.

From the top of my head - here are some greatly produced records:

http://image.allmusic.com/00/amg/cov...60106vh5g6.jpg
one of the punchiest's sounds I've ever heard.

http://image.allmusic.com/00/amg/cov...47779yigj1.jpg
it's amazing to get so many different music styles living together in harmony.

http://image.allmusic.com/00/amg/cov...07020127t4.jpg
an album that got feelings in every second of it.
