It would have been really interesting with the original lineup, but I really find it hard to get past the mantra stuff at the start and vocals in general.

During the launch of the album Bill invited a bunch of fans to Chicago to listen to the album on a charter boat in the harbor.

Here's 6 minutes of Bill at that event being egotistical while talking at @SPpictures about getting content for her website. Not too long after this Bill's lawyers threatened her and she had to shut down the online picture archive.

Oceania kind of started out interesting, and like everything Bill's done this century it ended with Bill firing everyone, lashing out at fans, and threatening to beat up queer women on Twitter

SP did a tour in 2011, 6 months or so prior to the launch of Oceania, and they played a LOT of old material along with about half the songs that ended up on the Oceania album. That tour in 2011 was way better than the disaster video globe tour in 2012.

I've tried several times to listen to this album. It just feels empty. Maybe not as empty as MTAE or Teargarden, but it's just lacking that edge that the earlier albums had. It's the perfect example of "phoning it in". Feels passionless and forced.

When it came out i was mildly relieved that it didn’t abrade/chafe my tight lil earholes like the aggressive, unlubricated zeitgiest

Today i cannot remember a single thing about it except the riff on inkless which i maintain is a pretty good riff

I cannot speak of the unbearable love and beauty that lives inside this tower which was built for venting sewer gas

I'd love a remix where it's not making my ears bleed with loud compressed nonsense, and where Billy's vocals are positioned better in the mix. Not a terrible album.

the unbearable love and beauty inside the North Shore Sanitary District Tower

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_...District_Tower

Quote:
The North Shore Sanitary District Tower is located in Highland Park, Illinois. It was built in 1931 to provide ventilation for the local sewer system. The brick tower is 50 feet (15 m) tall and topped by a spire. The tower features Art Deco elements, including the spire and its stone door trim and windowsills; the application of a formal architectural style is unusual in a purely functional building. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on June 30, 1983.

The tower is featured on the cover of the album Oceania by The Smashing Pumpkins.

Two facts:

Inkless is the best song on Oceania, by far.

MTaE is the better album of the two.

Sometimes you have an urge to listen to late period albums by bands you enjoy because you've played their best sfuff to death and you need something else.

It's alright. Bill's done way better and way worse. Its worst crime is being offensively average.

I'd much rather listen to it than fucking Monuments at any rate.

I completely forgot about this album. The 10-year anniversary t-shirt is cool enough to almost buy.

Agreed with some of the other posts that Quasar is unlistenable garbage. It tries to be a hard rocker but its much better alternative is the second track, Panopticon, which actually has a melody.

"The Celestials" feels right at home...on Zeitgeist. I legitimately enjoy My Love is Winter.. (I'm totally fine rocking along with "my love love is lost / my love is winter") From there on out, the album descends in terms of songs I connect to, until we finally reach Inkless.

It's (one of the?) last albums where Billy's lyrics aren't completely inscrutable Victorian-era word salads. One and a half thumbs up.

this is the only Corgan album after TFE that I can tolerate listening to. And that's only if I skip a few tracks.

Also correct

Hoping Jeff gets fired for going to one too many Zoom practices for this project (is it even still active?) so he can fly free

MTAE is the peak of WPC “straightforward” lyrics, including the gem :

Never been kissed by a girl like you
Ooh ooh scooby doo

I remember thinking the first two songs felt like SP were trying to return to their early 90s sound (and then also being surprised by how derivative these sounds sounded), and then the rest of the album sort of sputtering along with what sounded like weaker versions of MSOFTS's weaker tracks. Album goes on too long. I remember being confused by why the Celestials and Pale Horse were promoted or discussed like they were singles because they didn't leave much of an impact. I can't even remember what they sounded like. Was one of the them one of the opening tracks? This thread can't inspire me to listen to any of these again, sorry.

Remember Billy sort of promoting Pale Horse in those YT videos like stompland and my axes, and then it came out and it was...very average.
