Art Students?

Why hello there,

I was just wondering if there are any art students wo frequent this place (like moi

) . I study plain Art and Design right now but hope to progress to the countries main college N.C.A.D in September www.ncad.ie. Just wondering what the dealy-o with American art institutions is, as I have dual citizenship (never been there though)..which are the best etc...how much it costs (do you get a free grant off the government to attend and not have to work like we do? ) ..and all that jazz. I'll have more questions if anyone replies

I'm sick of little shits wasting mommy's and daddy's money going to fucking art school so that they can "make a difference." No one* who goes to art school is there to make a difference. You're there because you are self indulgent and don't think you can do anything else. Quit bitching and hanging out in your basement. Make progressive, effective change.

God damn I am sick and tired of self proclaimed "anarchists"

art school seems to be a big waste of time. i have a whole bunch of friends who moved here after they graduated RISD (one of america's better art schools) and now they're all working low-paying jobs, not making art anymore and all talkin' about how they wished they were still in school

I'm not an anarchist dear but It's good you vented that I suppose lmao. I'm actually quite poor due to the fact my mother was a single parent raising 4 kids and being unable to work for the most of that due to the fact shes had cancer for quite a long time, so therefore how I go to college is I work and the government see's I'm as poor as fuck and are nice enough to give me a grant to help pay rent so I can get a degree

Thanks for that though It makes me feel nice that I'm not the kind of gayass person you're talking about. woo.

It may be so in the states but in Ireland particularly we value cultural education quite highly. A degree from any reputable art school in anything really will get you a job in ANY kind of creative role. graphic design, you can be a lecturer, curator, independent artist, teacher, art therapist., art historian..whatever. We're also the only country in Europe which has free entry to all galleries. It's tough to get into them but if you come out the other side having suceeded you're quite admired

I've no idea yet, I've only been doing it for a year :P here we study everything for a year, sculpture,painting,print,textiles,ceramics,vis com ..everything then you choose what you specialise in and can opt for a joint course for 3 years after your first year and come out with not only a degree in whatever you choose to major in but also art history..which is more useful than you think!

See we can't take photography as a major here. Dunno why, it's heavily used no matter what you're majoring in though. It's weird that you have drawing as a class though.. here it's a prequisite skill to even get into a college :/ Not saying you can't..it's just we don't have those classes...except life drawing.. mm nudes. :vomit:
