Default this is the best time since 1996 to be a pumkins fan

or 97 if you like that tripe. the reasons are the following:

two good new songs: owata (some cringworthy singing that will hopefully be ironed out) and song for a son

the latest messages haven't been filled with attempts to appear intelligent or deep, just good ol' dumb billy.

the chris isaak hour showed a much more realistic and open billy, when talking about how great a lyricist he was he sort of went "meh" and he sounded genuinely hurt while talking about how james had snubbed him in the streets.

i think all in all this means that billy finally has recovered enough from the death of his mother to start getting back to his old creative self again.

Certainly don't think this is the best time to be a Pumpkins fan since 96-97 - That was probably in 2000 when he promised no more Smashing Pumpkins (I could be wrong on this).

There's been some good stuff since they revived the band, but they've still cheapened the name.

On a seperate note, I'm sick of hearing him talk about child abuse in interviews. It ruined If All Goes Wrong for me - especially as Pete Townsend was in it for no reason other than to say "I can talk about child abuse 'cos I wasn't looking at pictures of kids" over and over again. He was going on about on the Chris Issac Hour as well. I can only imagine how tough a break it is but really, he used to use lyrics for this.

The Child Abuse is relevant to this thread. It's made him an irrational, crazy, bipolar adult that we don't understand anymore.

This is the best time ever to throw up about anything Pumpkins and hide your CD collection in case your friends decide to visit you.

I've already said numerous times on the O-board that they are at the nadir of their career.

i love the people here who are embarassed suddenly

i went through the embarrassment about being a fan, out the other side to saying they were a pretty goddamn great band in the 90s and laughing about what happened and continues to happen

there's a pretty big difference in this documentary on how corgan sounds and acts just between 95-96. YouTube - Smashing Pumpkins Old Documentary and Interviews. does anyone know if the billy interview with short black hair is from 95?

Well that was a disheartening watch. "I try not to concentrate on singles, I try to concentrate on the album being good. I thought if the album was good, it would take care of itself" - BC '95. That and the part where he said he wouldn't "cheapen' something that's real" and how he's "sick of calculative rock moves" really hit me. What the fuck happened to this guy?

People change. Not necessarily for the better but it happens. The Billy of today has found God, hired Azoff, is a one-man band and claims to be full of light, love, and hope. He claims to be happy and at peace with himself...yet, there is something so insincere and hypocritical about him now. The Billy from that interview seemed sensitive and honest. However, I'm more concerned about how the new music is going to be. It made me a bit uneasy when he said: “SP will be about peace from this day forward as well. The music WILL also reflect this shift in devotion and humble gratitude.” and “My wish is that from this day forward this group will represent nothing but love and light”. He kind of sounds like a preacher on a mission, like he's only going to write songs about peace and love from now on.
