the arctic monkeys make catchy songs but its something id listen to for a couple of days and then completely forget about. the new album is pretty good, a little better than the first, but i havent listened to it since it initially was leaked. they are completely stiff live.

and radiohead is pretty much the best band around so that's all i need for english music. i happen to enjoy muse and the british sea power. i think belle and sebastian are english, and while i dont like them too much i know some people on this board love them. also pj harvey is pretty awesome.

Indeed, but atleast they have been working with Butch Vig and are sounding on their way to getting there now. Don't know if you have read this but it says they have about 2 albums worth of material and some other stuff. http://www.subba-cultcha.com/article...re.php?id=5073

Would anyone like Finelines/Between the lines by My Vitriol Uploaded? I would recommend it for SP fans (emotive sounds, quiet/loud dynamic), but they are individual, not a hard band to get into though.

i have it, great potential but the hooks are extremely weak, most of the album is so unmemorable. such a shame. i think the vocals are the main reason, they're barely even there.

Wow I really don't get that. There are plenty of strong hooks, that's how the band got fair recognition even mainstream wise. Their sound is unique, and on repeated listens stands up and stands out. Then again this maybe nostalgia kicking in because I was following this band from a year or so after they came out, but I think both cds are quality. The only thing I would say is some songs are too poppy, but I could say that about some of the Pumpkins (though I don't believe it's to their detriment). Are you saying the vocals are weak? I really like his voice, I mean it sounds different and melodic, to each their own I guess.

Like Foo fighters? That is a pretty terrible comparison imo (well maybe some of the rhythm guitar in the poppier songs). I didn't compare them to Pumpkins anyway, I recommended them. It seems generally Pumpkin fans are interested in the band (and the things I said about them are similarities, not identical if it seemed that way).

dont even bring that up!

whitehouse began in 1980, so you cant really ******* them in this discussion imo. new Throbbing Gristle album is pretty good, yeah, but same thing applies. im talking all the terrible post-94/95 groups.
