There have been other artists who have gone to shit (for years) and then redeemed themselves.

Not saying it is likely, but it is possible.

At this point he has shit so large that his legacy won't even get him into the lame ass hall of fame.

i think he'll be respected more after he dies because then we'll just have the music and won't have to deal with him being a douchebag anymore

If Teargarden keeps improving...I don't think he has anything to worry about. It's just icing on the cake.

1991 to 1998 already pretty much solidified that status.

unlikely. SP and Corgan don't have the indie or punk credentials to be regarded as such by those who decide such things.

but it is irrelevant anyway. all the legends produced a lot of shit material or peaked for a relatively short period followed by mediocrity or are just plain overrated.

just wait for the generation that was in teens and 20s in the 90s to get old, fat, and rich.. they will throw money at anything with nostalgic value just like the boomers are doing now. Probably with the same lame results too. Remember The Who playing the superbowl last year... I pray that I don't see a 60 year old Corgan wheezing out Bullet at the Superbowl when the whole economy revolves around our wealth.

Untrue, most people don't have any idea that he is even still making music, let alone that it sucks.

It'll only happen if he has a nervous breakdown, gives up his spiritual beliefs and begins to have suicidal thoughts. Only then will he make some magic.... or die (possibly from some disease?), not sure yet. Let's hope for the former.

I don't know tons about Elvis, but would Corgan's demise similar to Elvis' lead to a similar result among fans? Elvis produced loads of utter shit, especially leading up to his death.

No way are they comparable popularity wise, but among SP fans/casual listeners I'd think results would be close.

I've actually thought about this before. Billy is too prolific for this to NOT happen. Someday, Billy will release something that the critics will fall in love with again. He has it in him. Dude is responsible for Gish, Mellon Collie, TAFH and fucking Siamese Dream. It will happen.

Personally, I'm still a sucker for most stuff Corgan related. It's just ingrained in my DNA or something. At the same time, I get why some are turned off by him/ his music. But I still think he has at least one great album left in him. And by great I mean, almost universally accepted like SD and MellonCollie.
