Coop is such a wonderful character. You gonna tackle The Return next?
Did tackle The Return. It's changed the way I think about TV and movies in general and has generally invaded my psyche. Deeply disturbing at an existential level, to the point that I actually started feeling a little bit of that scary tickle at the back of my mind from a time where I thought I might need the SSRIs again (I'm totally fine, but yes, this is true). I'm still not 100% sure on some of the plot, but the visceral symbolism is horrifyingly clear.

OH and incidentally I just finished episode 6 of Yellowjackets, so there's some more mental trauma for the chilling-after-work-while-watching-TV pile... JFC

Been watching season 2 of "From". About a group of people who are stranded in an abandoned town. They don't know each other. One by one they end up there while driving. Once there, it's impossible to leave.

Every night at sunset demon like monsters roam the town. Anybody outside, or anyone who opens a door to the monsters, is torn apart by them.

I think the writers were involved with Lost. It's kind of like Lost, but more supernatural and less SciFi. Just like Lost nothing about the weird town everyone is trapped in is ever explained. Something weird happens every episode... you think it'll lead to a revelation of some kind... but it never does.

I liked Season 1 of this show. But well into Season 2 and we know fuck all about why any of them are there, who the demons are, why there's electricity in all the homes in the town, even through there's no wiring in the walls...

I want to like this show... but it's making me angry just like lost did. Except it's doing it much more quickly. Barely 12 episodes total. Lost took 2 years and 50 episodes to make me this angry

Been re-watching Quantum Leap and I think it's the single most source of anxiety in my life.

I was like 8 or 9 and was allowed to stay up 1 hour later on Wednesday than usual and watch a dude be thrown into a situation where he had no idea what his name was or what he was supposed to do.

I had to talk myself down and remind myself that TV wasn't real every week

Finally watched the newest Black Mirror season, and the Mazey Day episode might have been the worst thing I've ever seen

i thought season 1 of from was okay but have low expectations. same deal with yellowjackets which predictably shit the bed in season 2.

does any lost-esque show stick the landing? for the record i liked the lost ending but it could have been better

Watching "Sugar" on Apple TV. Kind of like it. LA Noir detective with issues.

Something way off though about this show. I think the main character is an alien

Sugar takes some kind of weird drug to sleep. can catch a fly out of the air with chopsticks. seems to speak every language. Has mental flashes of old Hollywood films when he's in high stress situations... like he's using them as a reference for what he's about to do. This sounds like a gimmick, but it's done very well. And it kind of fits with the way he dresses (nice suits) and what he drives (a mid 60s Corvette stingray). Also Colin Farrell looks a bit like an old Hollywood leading man.

In episode 3 .... highlight below for spoilers

Sugar meets with his handler, Ruby, and a house full of other people that are like him. They all have a connection to Ruby and are "polyglots". He gives her his notebook, which is supposed to contain his observations of people while on his cases. Despite being in her home they meet in an upstairss sound proofed room that looks like an interrogation room from an old movie. Later in the episode we see Ruby typing Sugar's notes into what seems to be a very very old typewriter...

I think he's an Alien

Everyone at work is watching baby reindeer. Should I do it? I’ve heard it’s gross and I don’t feel like being triggered this month

i liked it, although after the first half the quality is not so great anymore. there's a few very forced moments where it tries to be funny which just doesn't fit

I liked it, watched it all in a couple of days last weekend

Forgot it was apparently based on a true story 'til towards the end, but god damn what a ride that guy must have had

Gotta love the irony of all the "reddit detectives" apparently becoming stalkers themselves to try and find out who the characters are based on

I only made it to episode three, but maybe I'll continue with it at some point. I think the central guy made some questionable decisions, but I suppose that's part of it, him being emotionally/psychologically vulnerable in some ways. But the bigger problem was that I couldn't warm to him, I didn't find him particularly likeable as a main character. I tried.

yeah he's awful. i thought it did a good job of displaying the psychology behind self-destructive behaviors. we all have different shit like that in our lives, bad things/addictions/toxic people we kind of invite in. the dude just had an extreme example. he's a real nutter tho. i kind of doubt he'll be able to make anything else this good again.

Yeah, I haven't written it off entirely, I'll probably go and finish it at some point. It just didn't really click with me, but I didn't think it was awful or anything.

The other night I finished The Gentlemen - series based off the Guy Ritchie movie from 2020 or whenev w/ McConaughey and all those other "jazz cats"

I really enjoyed it, haven't really been too into Guy's stuff before (to be fair haven't really been exposed to it beyond the arbitrary teenage viewing of Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels - and I do wanna watch Snatch) but, after getting over the initial hump of worry that this would potentially just come off as a made for tv (/netflix) bastardization of a pretty solid action "drug" film, it turned out quite enjoyable & entertaining

hope there's a season 2, but if not, I guess I could always just rewatch The Reindeer again to pick up the slack of you "shlomos"
