I was like 12 years old and was reading the moonkids shit and I'm not sure I quite understood how deranged the person was at that age.

I can't speak for all that bullshit he did, but I met him in, I think, 1999, and he seemed just like an average dude. Never had a problem with him.

I was 14 in 99 when i got the whole family banned from AOL and i had migrate from the smashing pumpkins chat on there. I was not savvy enough for usenet so i ended up here. A lot of the AMSP drama is new to me too.

Wild that CrabbMan is user number 48. He helped me find hosting for my first non-geocities site. Wonder if he remembers that.

The nostalgia in this thread hurts. I fucking hate all of you. Eat shit and die.

My memory is so distorted. This current account is from 2006, but I had one before it for a few years. Mom got AOL in 1998 and one of the first things I did was look up SP and Star Wars card game by Decipher. My earliest memories of Netphoria was when the Ava Adore snippet leaked. I think it was a radio DJ playing parts of it. It was shared in real media player format. Does anyone else remember this? I am about to turn 35 and have spend 24, 25 years on here. That's crazy!

Nah.It started Feb 98 as far as I can tell. This would have been early May 98. Wasn't the 98/99 years of the board lost when they were consolidated?

I remember TEITBITE leaking in Real Audio in '97.

I'd already heard Ava Adore (from bootlegs) before it got released, so maybe that's why I don't remember it as well. I'm pretty sure I remember seeing the video debut and thinking it was very fucking strange. I'm about to turn 38.

I also remember KROQ playing the first three songs on Machina before they were released and somehow hearing them relatively fast afterward. Maybe the radio station had a stream and they played them multiple times. Or maybe it took me 8 hours to download and I was so happy it seemed like it was fast. That wasn't so bad, really, back then.

Of course, it's likely some of the detail in that has eroded over time or I'm combining events. Except I'm sure about TEITBITE because it was so weird to me. People on AOL had been telling me they were going 'disco' for months at that point and the quality was terrible.

But I don't remember doing any of those things on here. I think it was mostly AOL chatrooms and amsp.

So is that Moonkids uh, entity, serious about the hacks? Was that verified or just a bunch of horseshit? I wasn't a devoted fan until around Zeitgeist era so I missed all that by about 10 years.

It was real, I'm pretty sure. He also posted pics from outside Billy's house. At the time it wasn't something you could just look up so it was really invasive.

39 years old and user 120. Been here since 1998. While my registration date says 1999, there was some type of hiccup in the early 2000s where many folks who registered in the 90s had their dates changed to 1970 and Andrew updated things manually if you requested (and he put 1999 instead of 1998). Been mostly lurking with occasional posting on here for close to 25 years.

Wild that we just let this pass unquestioned. What'd you do, Johnny. Was this a "visited Stile Project and Ogrish too many times" kind of thing or a "Stalked and harassed people on AOL Chat" sort of deal?

my brother got our family banned from AOL around that time. I'm pretty sure he was using punters in chat rooms to harass people. My dad's had a mindspring.net email address ever since.

I never had this happen but I was in some chat room for AOL hacking tools (lol) which I used to make macros and shit, never anything terrible or annoying, and to be able to use the AOL app while uploading something (if you never saw the original AOL I don't know to explain it), which was usually impossible (you could not use it and also were not charged for any uploading you did (while it was still hourly pay) if I'm remembering correctly). They deleted the account and emailed the main account/email address (which I had access to, so my parents never found out). Never did it again, I just got them in a non-AOL browser instead. I was bold for being like 11 or something.
