That guy likes the album title a whole lot.

"Kali ma... Kali ma... Kali ma, shakthi deh!"

Aside from that first impression:

-Love the speedy release time

-Agreed, really could go for some more anything with that cover, I grow weary of bland nonsense covers (SAOSBV1LPNPNFNS, CYR, ATUM all just had totally non-memorable covers which really does lend themselves to most of the tunes therein)

-Also agree and hoping for not all chugga chugga, give me some variety

-For some reason, I have more hope for this than any record since Zeitgeist, though... I need hope at this juncture in space/time

For this to be objectively "good", it needs to tick a few boxes:

1. Billy vocals need to be "produced", in other words, with reverb / chorus / harmony effects in line with how he would've produced vocals in the past.
2. There needs to be a natural guitar sound, not the dry, plug-in sound we've had in recent times
3. Drums needs to sound like Jimmy
4. It's a stretch, but there needs to be a balance between rock and softer sections. And NO synths. Dreamy guitar lines a la Hummer.
5. The songs need to be good! With choruses you can sing! That don't stop every 10 seconds!
6. James needs to be on it, noticeably.

If he is boldly saying they made an attempt to "go home" with this album, "back in that original position", it HAS to mean he sees a distinction between "chugga chugga" SP rockers, and what they would've done before. Dry metallic Reverend sound vs. warm thick Strat / Les Paul sound.

If we are reading it wrong, and what he's referring to is the band starting from scratch again with no expectations, then it could be anything. But he did say quite a lot that he was putting himself back in the headspace of writing in the old style.

The short notice album drop on it’s own doesn’t fill me with confidence BUT not selling physical copies yet does.

Implies they think the album is strong enough it will sell physical after it’s been digested.

definitely, it's encouraging they aren't trying to make the music mean something with an overwrought marketing gimmick rather than just having good songs in the first place

Hope it’s great. But remaining cautious. The song titles sound try-hard occult-y and would lead me to believe it’s more hamfisted metal riffs like Empires and Wyytch type stuff than any sort of the dreamy psychedelia of yore. Hoping I’m wrong.

Yes this is obviously what he meant.

But everybody will be able to listen to it free on streaming. If people know it blows that will hurt physical sales.

Although I guess… that also applied to ATUM…

I removed James voice and I don't think the strings used here are from the Spaniards

Shazam doesn't identify it either.

Vampires and Lord of the Rings aren't real, either, but I still like some songs about them.

Even if the songs were written by people who think they're real and not as intentional allusions to fiction… why would I be averse to listening to somebody express their feelings through an artistic medium so long as the songs are good?

Just seems weird to shut your ears to possibly compelling music just because of some metaphysical position. Shouldn't miss out on good gospel hymns just because you're an atheist.

I want Billy to sing about things he deeply cares about, it's the only chance the music's going to be good. I always thought he should write an album about shapeshifters because that would be massively dope.

When I said it would be weird for one to shut one's ears to possibly compelling music, I just meant "religious music" in general and not SP specifically. It's hard for me to believe new SP could be "possibly compelling," whether Corgan is writing about stuff he cares about or not.

I'm not saying the music will be compelling as long as it's about something he cares about. What I am saying is that if he avoids his true passions the music less likely to be compelling.

It is painful how hard they are trying to look like the old gang just hanging out, enjoying each others company without massive tensions and unresolved grievances lingering just below the surface waiting to pop out like D’Arcy’s titties circa ‘98.
