Help Keep Netphoria Going Through 2022-2024

Hey guys, this is Andrew Pakula and I am looking for some help to keep the Netphoria Message Board Forums continue running through 2022-2024. I am asking for some donations solely to pay for the web hosting costs for the next 2 years.

Many are probably wondering why am I keeping this going?

Netphoria is sort of a relic of message board culture, something that has faded away from the internet with the prominence social media, reddit, discord, etc. It is something I created and when I was much younger and always liked and been proud of the community that it became, I am happy to see there is still some of us on here and I’d like to still preserve the site.

For a long time it did not cost me extra to keep Netphoria running, I had my own dedicated server which I used for freelance purposes so having an extra site on it did not matter. However once I gave up freelance work several years ago I have basically been out of pocket for Netphoria’s web hosting costs ever since.

Web Hosting Full Disclosure

Previous hosting was with IBM Cloud and costing me approx. $130/month, without my freelance work subsidizing the cost this was obviously unsustainable.

The New hosting as of this year is with Namecheap and utilizes a VPS server for $38/month which is much more reasonable and so far appears to perform just as great.

The exact cost

• Namecheap VPS Quasar - $19.88/month
• Cpanel Control Panel addon - $18.88/month
• Total - $38.76 (USD)

So that translates to $930.24 (USD) for 24 months, plus approx. $27 for the Gofundme fee, we get a total of $957 (USD) or $1200 (in my Canadian dollars) I’d like to aim for.

I should also mention there is no other revenue streams available for Netphoria, at one time Advertising could be utilized to generate something but due to Netphoria’s uncensored nature the site is basically blackballed on Google Ads.

So I leave it up to all of you guys, if you wish to donate it would be greatly appreciated, Netphoria will continue to live on, if not then that’s ok too, I am sure some like Monte would be happy to see it go away.

Would you also be upgrading the VBS software which is very out of date and buggy? Would be awesome to have the site stop telling me my IP has been banned every few hours and have something usable on mobile.

I commented on another thread about upgrading the VB software, it would be fairly difficult but not impossible, I would definitely have to test the process on a separate test site if I attempt it. There are some that don't want it updated, feeling it would lose the familiar feel, so I am not sure yet but it would be nice to have a more responsive design.

As for the IP, if you message me what IP it is when it pops up I can try and fix it. I may also just clear out all the IPs on the block list, the site is now run through Cloudflare so that should eliminate a lot of the bots.

In the 10 or so years ive been reading it, this board has been far more entertaining for me than the band upon which it is based

Also has provided much-needed catharsis and camaraderie as ivd watched, with near-total dismay, the decline of my once-favorite musician

Yeah, I can't imagine not coming here everyday. It's literally a habit to check Netphoria.

Thanks to all that have donated, I didn't think it would reach the total that fast, so that's amazing, much appreciated.

The amount raised is for 24 months of hosting, anything donated extra I will put toward additional time, so if you donate still we'll be in to 25+ months.

Wasn’t there a name and then a “name on card section”, too?
