Default Business Strategy Advice for Billy

Offering my wisdom to Billy. To grow the Pumpkins brand over the next decade or so…

1. Reboot the reissue plan. Do a deal with a bigger label to reissue Siamese Dream, Mellon Collie and an updated Greatest Hits Compilation, in exchange for putting out the Machina box set.
It’s been long enough since the last reissues, and these wouldn’t have to be so lavish. But new artwork and an archive show or new demos. Or the full album tracklist but with early / alt versions. There’s lots you can do here and these are evergreen albums.
Importantly this gets Machina 2 tracks out there and on streaming and gives fans the Machina reissue.

A new Greatest Hits is long overdue but rather than singles I think this should also cherry pick top album tracks and also post 2000 etc.

2. Use either a label or Zuzus to put out a reissue of Zeitgeist. Remix/master this to address the poor mix. Add all the b-sides and a live show, you’ve got another banger.

This is already enough releases to cover 3-4 years.

3. You’ve got Jimmy and James back. Treat Teargarden like a demo tape.. Re-record those tracks, plus was Super christ that era - add in unreleased and live versions - that’s another album ready to go or package with Oceania as another reissue set.

4. You can put out Zwan via Zuzus, I get that. But also a case to be made for sticking it under the SP umbrell at this point. Was it any less SP than Monuments or Oceania?
There’s 2-3 albums of material here.

This is a steady stream of archive, reissues, unreleased, rerecorded material to fill the next 6-7 years. Get it out there as fully promoted periodic album releases with artwork, singles and listed on Spotify etc. You’re golden. And that’s on top of any new music and obscurer archive releases via Zuzus. Which you can also list digitally on bandcamp, why not? Or eventually streaming services.

I agree that all of the archive and bonus releases should be on streaming. I don't want them on vinyl but I'll add them to my Apple music library.

If he's doing reissues please revert to the original artwork and not the crap that was used on those CD boxes.

Do we have any sense of how much stuff is in the vault that would be worth adding to another SD and MCIS reissue? Are there really many gems left or is it going to be more TTEOR Pit Mix 3 garbage?

i dont think he’ll ever get with a label again so it’s all moot.

The only way we’ll ever see the Machina reissue.

I think there are definitely tons and tons of gems given how much they've documented. Corgan, as most artists are, is overly dismissive of his work - he didn't understand why people wanted the double door rehearsals, iirc, but we'd sit through four hours of raw audio of that if he gave it to us.

MCIS/TAFH reissue with the full Pastichio Medley would move several hundred units alone. Billy will never get this stuff out there, though. This is his children's inheritance, I suspect.

full Pastichio Medley doesn't exist. They're mostly just riff jams that were never fleshed into songs.

Full Pastichio Medley = the full version that were used to make the Medley. They were pulled from somewhere. Hell, with Dizzle having a full arrangement and lyrics, I'd say some of these are completed and setting in the vault.

nah we've probably already heard most of each recording from the existing release of Pastichio. I doubt most of those riffs ever turned into anything beyond studio jams they tried out

Ok, I like retconning MSOTS as an SP album. It's unnecessary, craven, spiteful, hilarious, and clumsy. That's the band I love right there.

Even if there aren't full Pastichio studio recordings, there are likely demo versions of those songs that might be more fleshed out. Or soundchecks/rehearsals.

Hell if anything I just want the full recording of that take of The Groover, it's completely different than the gravity studios demo.

This and a remastered Depresso and I'll be a happy lad.

great pick, the Groover just fucking HITS in a way that Edin doesn't. they sound like a band practicing in a parking garage, it's incredible
