i really like videotape. it's the only song that grabbed me on first listen. lyrics are awesome.

it's very hard to keep myself from overplaying it and i just got the download a few hours ago. so i put on handsome furs and this album is fucking great.

15 step sounded like shit. this is what happens when musicians grow old, they can't bring the melodies.

ive only listened to the first track yet so my opinion basically doesnt count
but it sounds like a watered down version of hail to the thief. too much fucking electronics and too little actual great music.

where are the days of amnesiac, where great organic, beautiful music was arranged with perfect balance of instruments and manipulated sounds?

Altogether quite limp-wristed and unambitious on first listen.

what album do you think is their last great album?
i only despised HTTT. boring, mindless shit apart from about 1-2 tracks.

you know, im still listening to the rest of the album and its got some great material. some of it really grabbed me. i dont really know what, since i just let it play and dont look at the song titles, but All I Need is a fucking great track.
the album seems to have its own vibe... its like Kid A, but different and not as good (at least from what ive gathered on the firts listen).
it does sound good though, i might really like it in a few listens

i completely agree with both things you said.
ive only listened to the whole thing once but it seems some of the songs are begging for powerful arrangements and the band is just not making it happen...
videotape somehow remains powerful with that awful arrangement they made for it, its just too bad. just like you said, they've gotten comfortable and they're not pushing things and agonizing over them until they're mindblowing...
just about like any other mega successful band on the planet. its so sad when that happens to artists.

i really think godrich has too much influence over them at this point; he's even dubbed 'the sixth member', for christ sakes. what the fuck.
he's a fucking producer, and an amazing one at that, but there should still be boundaries... and thats part of radiohead's problem right now.
also, as some people have already said, this album lacks dynamic balance between the members because jonny is basically not there.
and phil might as well not be there as well cause its all drum machines that dont really go anywhere, just vechiles for the tunes.

with all that bitching being said though, i think the record's really not bad, and there's a good chance the tunes will grow on me like vintage radiohead

Even if all that amounts to anything on this album is Videotape, to me its worth spending the $80. I still have the live versions in my mind from seeing them last year... perhaps that shifts my overall appeal to the album.

I'm wondering what CD2 will sound like.

I think with many musicians who were once pushing "limits" they've come to somewhat of a plateau, what limits are there to push anymore other than the delivery of your work (which they definitely did). This album really feels like songs they just enjoying playing, not necessarily just fabricating in a studio... this was really evident last year with the tour.
