I agree, "there just has to be" is a weak foundation for belief.

I prefer the prophetic accuracy of the Bible, as its something that can be seen. Unbelievable how the Good Book describes the how and why of the dominance of the western nations, and many other things.

As for the whole 50/50 thing. Once upon a time I didnt know which was harder to believe, the existence of a creator God of the universe, and a grand purpose for mankind, or, the alternative: that absolutely EVERYTHING was created out of absolutely NOTHING for absolutely no reason at all. These days from the proofs Ive seen the former is much more reasonable.

i can't remember exactly what the theory is called

the world doesn't change - the world just is

it's how we perceive the world - and the theory goes that there is no reality

life is one big perception

how do you even know this is true? no scientist would claim "everything came from nothing". i will not read the rest of your rant if it's based on this false premise.

That's the whole point... It seems ludicrous to propose that. You really aren't objective if you stop there when you didn't even see what I meant.
Read the rest of the sentence.

i've read it now. it just seemed like you and shinobi used a non existent scientific thesis of "everything coming from nothing" as an argument for serious discussion on this topic. most religions will state that everything came from a higher being or something similar, not nothing, and most scientists don't put forth claims regarding non-observable phenomena.

the primary flaw in all creationists' argument is their willingness to ask "who created the universe" but not "who created god".

Oh no not at all, I was using it as a mere obvious reference. Something people could empathise with, Im not trying to turn out anything controversial. Just trying to put the OP into a context where it doesn't sound so biased. Outside religion, if there was even a point...

this question is usually asked by people who reject the christian explanation anyway. if you accept it then god is defined as an eternal benevolent being that does not need to be created. the mainstream christian answer to your question would simply be: nobody created god.

No im fully aware that most people think im an idiot for the things I believe, I get mocked, scorned and ridiculed all the time. And I fully understand how 'silly' the things I say must seem to majority of people. Because I believe whats actually taught in the Bible, majority of mainstream Christians even think what I believe sounds silly.

Not really, I wasn't raised in church, most my life I've had little to no belief in God. So I know both sides of the perspective.

My girlfriend used the "there just has to be" thing on me last night. I mentioned in passive amazement that bears and dogs have a common ancestor and her response was, "Or maybe God created them both." I said, "Fine, but we have fossil evidence that the dog family and the bear family all evolved from one animal. Like whales and pigs or something." Her response: "There just has to be a God though. It couldn't have happened by itself."

Ah, whatever.
