i'm pretty sure this only-talented-people-are-allowed-to-criticize stuff doesn't fly. either everyone can criticize or no one can. i am personally a believer in the latter.

no tcm, you misunderstand me!
I think anyone can critique something. Anyone can say I hate that! and i don't mind. Anyone can say what they don't like about it, i don't care.
But this m. night person is saying that Trent has no talent, and that just makes no sense. I get tired of seeing people argue that because they don't like something, it's obviously not worthy of existance.

i don't think i misunderstand you. criticizing is not just saying what one likes or doesn't like. if talent is real and can be measured, there's no reason you should have to have it to judge it.

not going to answer my question about whether you could do this? Tell you what, download either idrum or hydrogen, they're free drum machines. Get yourself audacity to record, and find some free synth demos or shareware. Then make us a song that demonstrates why you're qualified to tell us what TALENT is.

Not everyone cares about acoustic stuff. Some people *gasp!* like electronic music. Oh! like billy! whaddya know!
No guitar solos! oh my, NIN can't possibly be good, they don't have guitar solos!

get a load of this guy.

hm. well, you might be right tcm. But I think you should be able to UNDERSTAND it before you can judge it so harshly (which is why i suggest he try to make his own...it's not as if electronic musicians just push random buttons and the computers do the work). It's clear from his posts that he doesn't understand much about what goes into making this type of music. And no melody? really?

sorry, i get that one a lot too, i should know better.
and i'll pass on seeing your booty shaking, though i'm sure there are others here who might be interested.

I don't mean anything by all of this by the way. I definitely find your logic to be skewed, but it's nothing personal.

my point in a nutshell is this... as someone who is learning to use the computer to create music, having previously used only "real" instruments, I can attest to the fact that it's a complicated process. And to do so takes patience and skill. To write a good song takes talent. M. Night said, "hurt by johnny cash, good, hurt by NIN, bad". Well Trent wrote the song. Just because you prefer one delivery over another, makes no difference when it comes to judging the amount of talent involved in writing the song.

I'm a NIN fan. Probably in my top 5 bands. However, Year Zero was a piece of shit. I don't want to hear another word out of Trent's mouth until he gives me my $14.99 back.

no, it takes a complete lack of self-respect and complete desperation. this thread proves nothing besides how moronic you are.

Well, like I said, I'm a pretty big NIN fan. I heard some of the album and didn't like it. I figured it might grow on me. Nope! I'd do the same if the Pumpkins put out a record and I didn't like what I'd heard online...

i haven't heard the new stuff yet, besides survivalism. I wasn't that into it, but I'll give the other tracks a listen before I decide to buy it. Then again, I'm not a HUGE fan of NIN. I'd do the same with the pumpkins too...in fact, I did, I bought Machina, and i still don't like it.

The album was leaked track by track over like 6 weeks. Then the whole thing was on the NIN site streaming for weeks before it came out. You're the idiot who bught something you did'nt like.
