I Just A/B Tested Coca Cola and Pepsi Cola. AMA.

Even though I've had both beverages multiple times before and was always aware that there are differences in their flavour profiles, never have I drank both beverages within a narrow enough time span that I could directly compare them and identify the specific differences between them. I mean, it's not like I'd ever have reason to purchase two cola soda pops at once, right? Who would possibly be intrepid enough to do that?

Well, last night, I dared to do just that. I went to the corner store and bought one of each, with the express intent of drinking them both and alternating sips.

These two beverages similar colour masks some subtle differences between them.

No. I didn't have somebody else to keep track of which was which at the end if I did it blind.

Refrigerated.

This is because I found it obnoxious how a lot of Pepsi advertising would take shots at Coke and attempt to look like the "cool cola," whereas Coke never said a word about Pepsi and just focused on being Coke. Look, I'm willing to give money to corporations that steal water from poor communities in the Global South, but I draw the line at being a smarmy dick.

After the taste test, I still have no preference, and I think it depends on which one I'm in the mood for. But they are similar enough that I would not care if I wanted one, but the establishment I was in only had the other. But this is all moot, as cola is not my favourite type of soda pop anyway, and I'm much more likely to get a grapefruit soda pop like Fresca, root beer, or cream soda.

No one else participated in the test. My roommates were all doing other things.

I used to rarely drink soda, but I've started buying a lot more diet pop than I used to in order to satisfy sweet cravings when I don't want the calories. It's not a great substitute when I have candy or pastry cravings, but it's something, and the carbonation makes me feel full for a while.

Oh yeah, I should mention that it was Diet Coke and Diet Pepsi that I compared. I almost exclusively drink diet soda pop.

Yeah, an A/B test would require that I test the colas on different experimental groups and see how their reactions are different from each other.
