Bill Cosby free to rape again
How is an agreement for which there is no record of grounds to overturn a conviction?

Only 18% of reported rape cases result in a conviction. Only 34% of all rapes are actually reported. Which means that 6% of rapes result in a conviction.

It seems fair for him to be released if he was promised non-prosecution so that he would be forced to testify in civil court... but like, it sure feels like shit, and the prosecutor who prosecuted despite the agreement definitely should face consequences. I read a lot of the court ruling and it does seem sound that he was released. You can't tell someone they have to testify in civil court because they are not facing prosecution and the 5th amendment is off the table and then just take it back.
Hopefully there are some charges it doesn't apply to, but most likely he's free for the rest of his life. |

Cosby didn't actually cooperate with them, though. He denied all of this.

I mean didn't they just tell him he couldn't plead the 5th because they would never prosecute him and he couldn't incriminate himself? If they think he lied they can go after him for purgery. I don't think they made some deal where he promised to tell the truth, but correct me if I'm wrong. My understanding is they thought they couldn't get a conviction so they forced him to testify in a civil trial by taking criminal prosecution off the table so he couldn't just refuse to testify based on fifth amendment rights. This was in an attempt to at least get him to have some consequences, since the burden of proof is much lower in civil cases. That's the way it's explained by the court brief. Then years later a different prosecuter decided to prosecute him anyway.

Don't get me wrong, Cosby is obviously a rapist piece of shit. But from my limited understanding, it makes sense why he was released.
