Nuts how people are STILL talking shit on Darcy in 2023… I would kill to have a bass player in my band that understood the style in the distance between the notes

I got no idea what you're talking about but i want D'Arcy, too.

Even 2023 D'Arcy is ok, with the botched plastic surgery and the body of 55 yo lunatic woman from Wisconsin Michigan

Love her!

The end is a bit short and disappointing. Nice crunch at the start then it fades.

I'm guessing they were pressed for time in the segment and had to go straight from the solo to the outro.

I remember watching this, I believe it was broadcast in January 1993. The first thing I ever saw them on. I'd only just heard of SP the year before, and I wasn't entirely sure if Billy was a boy or a girl (I'd read no interviews, just heard this and Snail and seen a few blurry pictures). This performance made me realise he was a man, but boy was he pretty with those cheekbones and that hair. I wanted to be him so I promptly grew my hair out and started trying to dress like him too.

I had just gotten the look down when the Cherub Rock video came out - imagine my surprise when I saw he had cut his hair short.

Isn't there a full version of this performance on an old cd boot? Pretty sure they did play the heavy part and the show just did a weird edit for the broadcast.

Yeah you're right! There's a now-obvious edit at 3.25. In thirty years of knowing this video, I never noticed. jesus.

It's like hearing the "let me take you down cause I'm GOING to" edit in Strawberry Fields Forever for the first time

During the Tokyo appearance on Vieuphoria he was wearing the same clothes and also had "die" written on his hand.

Can anyone track/explain this timeline?

edit: he was wearing the same sweater during the interview but not during the performance of "slunk" where you can also see "die" written on his hand

He also wears it in the studio segments of Vieuphoria.

The Mighty YouTube algorithm threw this one at me a few weeks back - hadn't ever seen it before. Loved it. A video deserving of it's own thread big time.

This WAS on Vieuphoria, wasn't it? Begs the question why they didn't use a full version of it, assuming one exists.

You're looking at "Slunk" (live on Japanese TV, 1992) methinks

Both the Japan and UK appearances were filmed during February 1992. The BBC performance was obviously done during their UK tour that month.

The YouTube upload is from a special compilation episode "The Late Show" - another BBC show - broadcast in February 1993 as a "Grunge Special" entitled No Nirvana, as it showcased a raft of other US bands besides Kurdt and Co. This was repeated about 12 years ago which is why you have a nice digital copy from which the upload comes (shown on BBC Four - you can just about see the "Four" from the station logo in the top left of the video).

There's a great Jeff Buckley performance of 'Grace' from the same show. The host mentions Tim Buckley while introducing them and you can see Jeff gets visibly pissed off.

Jeff Buckley wasn't on the original "No Nirvana" show. From memory it was:

Pearl Jam
Belly
Sugar
Jane's Addiction
Screaming Trees
REM
RATM
SP

(Ok I had to look up the rest - Sonic Youth, and Dinosaur Jr

Do you just mean the show in general, The Late Show?

like a passing "pissed off" or like Billy Bob Thornton on that one talk show where he wanted everyone to forget he was an actor?

Why would Jeff get so antsy at the mentioning of his dear old pops?

Jeff met him only once and as a child he was known as Scott "Scottie" Moorhead, based on his middle name and his stepfather's surname.

"And this is Last Goodbye, Scottie Moorhead's new smash single, enjoy!"

Billy said she was bad and sexism. That’s all it is.
