To be honest I think Yokos songs were better on Some Time In New York City too. And her P.O.B, while a harder listen, gives his a run for its money and basically invented industrial. So of all Beatles maybe Yoko had the best solo career.

Some of the tracks on the Double Fantasy Stripped Down version are pretty good, Yoko's stuff is great on that (e.g. Kiss Kiss Kiss).

it was only a matter of time 'til this Dave Grohl discussion morphed seamlessly into a "who broke up the Beatles?" debate

Did Dave Grohl break up Nirvana?

Did they actually disband?

Could they not have gotten a new guy, like Stone Temple Pilots and Alice In Chains did?

Really what should've happened is Dave Grohl becomes the new Nirvana singer, with a different drummer.

I lost a lot of respect for Grohl when I discovered he didn't write the drum part for In Bloom, which is the best drum part on any Nirvana song

Kurt Cobain - guitar, vocals
Krist Novoselic - bass
Chad Channing - drums

Hmm, he did write some pretty good drum parts. Come As You Are and Teen Spirit.

In Bloom is definitely the best Nirvana song, in terms of drumming. I had no idea that wasn't Dave!!

yeah, yeah, whatever
I can't claim to be that familiar with all the drum parts to their songs.

I should have said it is the most "iconic" drum part. Come as You Are has a cool drum part but it isn't as memorable as In Bloom. I could hum the In Bloom drum part and people would know the song/band

Until 5 minutes ago I thought Grohl unequivocally wrote all Nirvana drum parts, and have always ranked In Bloom up there for drums. I mean, how could you not? So your point doesn't work, at least not for me.

I will say that Dave plays Chad's drum parts better than Chad does. But maybe that's the production. THANKS BUTCH

One of my faves...
And it's not Chad or Dave on drums, but Dale Crover

P.S. On Bleach, Dale Crover plays drums on "Floyd the Barber", "Paper Cuts" and "Downer," not Chad Channing.

I mean, technically, Nirvana had 4 other drummers before Dave.

You can find the rest of the first demos with Dale on drums with the compilation Incesticide,: "Beeswax," "Downer," "Mexican Seafood," "Hairspray Queen," and "Aero Zeppelin" and the boxset With The Lights Out: "If You Must" and " Pen Cap Chew." If you're a completist who wants to hear Nirvana pre-Chad and pre-Dave. It's interesting because each drummer brought a different style and I felt pushed the band in a different direction.

With The Lights Out boxset also has three live songs with Dale on drums, "Downer", "Floyd the Barber", and "Raunchola"/"Moby Dick" from '88. Plus the '91 "Drain You" demo that has Dale on drums and Dave Gohl playing bass.

Rick Beato was going on and on to Butch Vig about Dave’s drum hooks on Nevermind on In Bloom and yeah, those were Chad’s parts that he came up with. Dave is still a much more powerful and tight drummer though. Chad was kinda sloppy.
