We all, at this point, have the standard checklist of complaints memorized (vocals too high, yadda yadda yadda). They all come up every single time we get a new song, usually with people hammering on about them in multiple threads for weeks. if i had to make one solid, firm, girthy claim on Smashing Pumpkins or at least Daddy Corgo in particular, it would be that he's only as good as the popular music of the time. like he's incapable of even considering the prospect of releasing anything that can't compete with whoever the top artists are of the time - he even said it himself when breaking up the band the first time! came off as a joke then but tbh it seems absolutely sincere now. He legitimately would rather compete with Taylor, Harry, whoever else and play to absolutely zero of his or the band's strengths then just honor what he actually created (both sonically & fanbase-wise) and expand on that

there's a difference between "trying new things" & just blindly trudging down a lose/lose path. success & the Adore effect might have really fucked him up irreperably
