MTAE vs CYR

Since apparently Oceania is the new favorite, just curious which of these two lovelies is more enjoyable for you

Cyr for me. MTAE has got some GREAT songs and is kinda an "All killer no filler" thing but I prefer Cyrs vibe and direction.

Well, MTAE's got a couple of undisputed bangers so there's that.

MTAE has 1 good song - Drum 'N Fife

whereas Cyr has 0 good songs

therefore MTAE wins

Oceania has about 4 good songs, for comparison

I prefer the songs on MTAE, but it sounds so terrible, so metallic and sharp and brickwalled, that I can't physically listen to it.

Cyr SOUNDS better, but the songs aren't that good and there's too many of them. Saying that, I'd rather now listen to Purple Blood or one of those ones, rather than, say, Dorian or Tiberius. Even though I may prefer the latter songs.

So, does that mean I have to pick Cyr?

Cyr has Anno Satana, Purple Blood, Save Your Tears, Birch Grove, Wrath, Haunted, Hidden Sun, Schaudenfreud, Minerva.

These tracks are better than practically everything on Oceania and MTAE.

Cyr sounds like a BC solo album, just not a good one.

MTAE has an actual drummer ripping on it.
Cyr has programmed drum machine beats.

MTAE has 1x Run2Me
Cyr has 20x Run2Mes

MTAE has Tiberius.
Cyr has nothing.

For me it comes down to Dorian vs The Color of Love. Yes, those are only 2 songs I like between both albums.

Monuments decimates Cyr. Can’t believe these votes. It actually has guitar, good drums, and the best set of songs he’d written in years.

CYR has a better vocal performance and cooler words - it's also a mix and match, make your own album deal. i'm a fan but not of all 20 songs.

MtaE is the more considered record track order wise, but it's got some questionable, weak vocals (i can't unhear a bum note in run 2 me) - but the dynamic is cool and it's a nice compliment to Oceania. it has a vaguely 1996 bside aesthetic

run2me is the worst thing he'd written since widow.. so it loses out for that reason alone. drum and fife is total rock cheese.

Cyr is frustrating but I can pull a good EP out of it. Save Your Tears is better than anything on MTAE except for one and all.

I actually really like his guitar tones on Monuments. Definitely better than Oceania’s.

The only song I like on Oash is The Celestials. So far it's 1-1-1 for me. Maybe after ATUM is complete I'll have an EP.

I will say Inkless has a nice guitar sound, but I don't find the song to have any impact.

I guess this thread was inspired due to all the praise Oceania has been getting here recently. It's fairly easy to compare Oceania and MTAE, and the board favorite is clear. But comparing the supposed "loser" of the two with CYR seems more divisive.

Oh, I didn't mean MTAE and CYR sound alike. More like, Oceania and MTAE sound enough alike and people seem to prefer Oash. Since CYR sounds so different, which disappointing album direction do you prefer, the less favored, lyrically dead guitar based album, or the sleepy techno nightmare?

my opinion on Shiny is essentially the same as what I said for Monuments above, but inversed
