I havent rewatched it but isnt this the announcement where he admits people didn't like the mixes of Machina and Zeitgeist and holds his hands up laughing, like "yeah, I fucked that up!"

Cut to instagram 10 years later... "People said Zeitgeist sounded bad because they're not fans and also chemtrails. Trump 2024."

i've been getting into the machina tour a bit lately thanks to the new videos. thots:

* rock on / lifetime get less and less pleasant every time i think about them. fucking grating and horrible

* BSBT actually fucking rips. especially the transition to double time

* MCIS/SD songs sound terrible with this distortion, unless reworked [a la tonight, blew away]

* it's a fun novelty seeing JC play an electric kit but it sounds fucking awful

* acoustic set is a bore. the europe version is too elaborate in all the wrong ways; the american version is just...dry

* pale scales is the fucking best

* imaging waiting for an encore and they bust out fuckin raindrops and sunshowers

Imaging waiting for an encore and instead of busting out 1979, they just... don't come back on stage.

I still believe in Machina Reissue. It's real. It's done, complete.. We're just waiting on WPC(?) to script the graphic novel and then Linda Strawberry to draw 100+pages of sequential art. They'll probably be done next week.

I wouldn't argue with any of this. Rock On was an abomination, to be sure.

The sort of golden clagnut, which makes visiting Netphoria for 20 years worthwhile.

At the Metro show, Bill says "The Last Song" was the last song he wrote for Mellon Collie.

Yet when he talked about 1979 (storytellers?) he said it was the last song he wrote for Mellon Collie.

Unusual for Bill to contradict himself like this, who to believe?

That Japan show is pretty cool in general, it's like an early precursor to the Euro tour structure a few months later with an opening acoustic set.

I quite like the covers from that era, Rock On has some really amazing drumming and Once In A Lifetime is quintessential Machina-era drop C heaviness

Funny because neither 1979 or The Last Song were the last song he wrote for MCIS

1979 was the last song "in the studio" that he worked on for MCIS deadlines.

The covers were recorded at then end..

I think the machina reissue would be cool. It's the only SP album they haven't reissued yet.
I don't consider the newer albums real smashing pumpkins.

some of the songs on TAFH weren't even recorded during the MCIS sessions. I can't remember where they were done, but it was after, and you can clearly hear it on tracks like Aeroplane the song

I always took it to mean that The Last Song was the final song of the mellon collie era.

well one is a tv show for normies, one is a show with thousand dollar tickets for insane nerds

he probably meant 1979 was the last song he wrote of those that made it on MCIS

How was I previously wholly unaware of this show's existence, period?

Didn't find it on Archive.org before I found this, which seems like a suitable way to partake.

Yeah, I took it as meaning 1979 was the last song recorded for MCIS, and Last Song was the last MCIS-era song.
