Who would you want producing the Pumpkins?
Any young producers out there producing rock who would be a good fit for SP?

Yeah, but since people are always saying a producer needs to get in there and help the band mold the material, I was wondering if there was anyone that people actually had in mind that could do this.

however, just for once, for the sakes of unity, i wouldn't mind seeing an african american producer for this band.
i'm sure there's plenty of talented ones about.. |

Danger Mouse might do something interesting with them.
Nigel Godrich, if they were to make a softer / dreamier album. Not sure I'd want them to go down the Ryan Tedder / Mark Ronson route, that would just be pure sell out time. Really, the one we all want is Butch. |

With SP, producers are more like sound engineers so i’d stick with the Flood, whose career is more or less in the same league as the Pumpkins now.

Whoever did the last mogwai record made them sound more like SP, than SP have sounded in donkeys years.... So them I guess?
Flood would do though; kinda in keeping with the whole "it's a trilogy" thing. Right? |

He really looks more like a member of Radiohead doing some work in his spare time. Now picture him going from the Oxford guys to Bølly lmfao |

Plus all those records he did produce are excellent. Never cared for Flood's production; I think some of the vocals on MCIS suffer as a result of that "the scratch take is the take" approach. The vox on SD and even Gish were far more considered and worked on (e.g. Billy's story about having to sing "she knows" for hours). And as for Machina? Flood's role as a producer should've been to steer that ship but it got away from him and became a bit of a mess. |

Machina is messy but it's parts are some of the best SP material, and the last time SP sounded like a current band with an artistic vision for a record. Problem is, it was too inaccessible and overproduced to connect with a mainstream audience. Compared to Zeitgeist, which just sounds bad even though the songs are direct and made for radio. Or Oceania which sounds likea flat facsimile of better material. And the rest of Corgan-produced stuff which is borderline unlistenable.

Poor Flood, Billy isn't really into collaborative work, it seems. In the golden era of the band that approach worked wonders but from Adore things gradually turned into a ghost ship. Since he fired the good ole Kerry Brown it's been a circus. |

Producers
Working with Flood and Alan Moulder on this one and then working with Butch on the next one in 2023 would be amazing.

One of my favourite albums! If you like his work with Air you should check out "5:55" by Charlotte Gainsbourg, also produced by Godrich and written and performed by Air (you may already be familiar with it, apologies if so). It's an Air album in all but name.
I suppose it's also down to whether Flood, Moulder, or even Vig would want to work with Billy again. Probably not. F**k it, I'm voting for Brian Eno. I would love to see Billy's reaction to Eno holding up those "Oblique Strategies" cards. |

I like Ben Chisholm. Chelsea Wolfe, Mrs Piss and all that.
Jack Antonoff based on his stuff with St Vincent. I think St Vincent is basically what SP are trying to do..? Christopher Juul. Myrkur, Heilung etc. Will Putney. I like the sound of the Bodycounts "Carnivore" album. If SP wanted to go heavy again then this guys got it. Paul Draper with PDub. But really I'd like WPC to continue producing SP. I like Cotillions and Cyr, and think he's a good producer. I enjoy the journey. Flood or Vig would be the worst. |

They're both doing solo stuff now; Nicolas Godin's last album was just OK, very commercial leaning. I didn't really like the vocal tracks on it. JB Dunckel's stuff is more Air-like, check out the album he made with Jonathan Fitoussi called "Mirages". We really do have Air to thank for the whole "synthwave" genre; using all those vintage synths. If only Billy would do something like that - getting a real shoegaze / vaporwave sound going, but with live drums and the soft vocals of old. Ah one can dream. |

am i the only one who thought Flood was always kind of an odd fit for Pumpkins? outside of Adore and parts of Machina, i guess. he made a lot more sense with Depeche, Nin & U2
but ya, would be better than just b0lly or b0lly + reuben by this point i reckon! |

They should stop recording music until they start writing decent songs.
2 years pass: BILLY: "THEN SOME GUY ON A MESSAGEBOARD SAID WE SHOULD JUST STOP RECORDING! SO I THOUGHT FUCK THAT GUY IM NOT RECORDING ANY MUSIC AGAIN." |
