If they (he) would just do this one fucking thing, everyone who even knows what a Smashing Pumpkin is would LOVE it.

Billy wants to believe that his meteoric rise was attributable solely to his songwriting prowess and musical proficiency. In reality, these things aligned with the zeitgeist.

They are never going to align again. Therefore, he is never going to achieve a level of fame that he had in 1996. He's been chasing these things since 1996, trying to strongarm his way back onto the global music stage through sheer talent, while eschewing his true strengths in some misguided effort to prove himself.

What #3 in this "trilogy" needs is for Billy to accept that he was a benefactor of timing and circumstance as much as it bit him in the ass and quickly ushered him out the door soon after. Only then will he be able to just do what he does best: make an awesome alternative rock album, while accepting that alternative rock is never going to be as popular as it was in the 90's.
While it would be great if he could recapture the SP sound. I'm honestly okay with pretty much whatever music he wants to make. The band has won me over and I'm happy to give new releases a chance, synth pop and all. The reissues were huge triumphs and I was introduced to tons of great prime SP1 material I had never heard before. It's Billy's insecurity that gets old and hinders enjoyment of new material. It's like dude, you're not a heel, you're not a provocateur, so just stop with all this nonsense already. I would much rather go to an SP concert where they even just rocked out monuments than I would go to a greatest hits show with all the ridiculous outfits and theatrics that go on.

Hopefully it'll pop up on youtube. Lots of good stuff. They actually talked a lot about zero/glass too and Bolly said the zero character actually started during SD era. How bout that.

Zero isn't a character. I'll allow Glass because he actually showed up in songs, and there was at least an attempt to make a cartoon around that concept.
