Bit of a dumb rock song, riff's lame, Jimmy's snare sounds sampled, ffs Howard.

Sounds more at home on Monuments to an Elegy.

Can't clearly hear many of the lyrics but these ones stood out:

"Alone alone lone lone lone"
"There she blows"

Enjoy!

I heard something like "along the love", "alone but loved" and "alone and lost"

The riff sounds like a crappier Wynona's Big Brown Beaver

"It's the world premiere of In Lieu Of Failure (with the sound of classic Pumpkins kids love!)"

I can't for the life of me understand why he thinks classic SP sound has anything to do with that synthetic, overproduced early 00s commercial rock trickery.

Also that passive-aggressive bit about wanting a million dollar to write a song in the year you want is the most pathetic shit ever. Bill bill bill...

yeah i mean, i like this song, and in general the rocky songs on ATUM, but they are not at all 'classic Pumpkins'. closest we've got is Moss which sounds like it could be from Machina era. honestly most of these have more in common with 80s metal at times than 'classic Pumpkins'. if this is billy's attempt to give us some 'classic Pumpkins' style songs then i find that fascinating, because it really does not sound like old SP at all. i wonder what songs he's basing this perception of the classic Pumpkins sound on.

At this point one can really question how much of the so-called SP classic sound© was in fact influenced by external factors like Butch or Flood rejecting stuff, Billy wanting to be the torch-bearer of alternative island and be better than Nirvana, playing by the rules of the time (think REM doing Monster) etc…

I actually think they should've slowed down this one a bit. The riffs sound better player at 0.8.

That journalist in Mexico has a good point

Sounds like Monuments/written in 10 mins/21 songs in 20 days/not Pumpkins 96

On plus side no synths!

I don't even know how to begin unpacking this one.

I feel like the fact that he says this is the sound of '1996 Pumpkins' and the song has "Alone" for half of its chorus says a lot about what he's now capable of, and it shows that he truly doesn't understand what made old SP special and what makes people miss it - RAWK was only ever one element among many.

I've transcribed the lyrics if you want to sing along:

I PASS THE SALT IF I COO CHAIN
(WOAH)
I BLEJ YOUR WALTZ AND HAVE FOR BLAME
(Oh JUST NO)
MY LIPS AN LISTS AN LAZE BELL US!
MY KIN ET KISS AN CHOKE AH BLASS!
(ALRIGHT!)
SEND IN THE CLONES!

Song is ok, absolutely does not sound like MCIS / TAFH era aside from the Clones reference. Very post-2007 in feel.

Also, is Lisa contractually obliged to sing ON EVERY SONG?

I quite like this one! Obviously it has issues, the vocals are way to loud as per usual, but he's singing decently enough with a few of the little "oh's" that he used to do.

The odd timed section is very Monuments, but it's pretty good. The "alone" chorus is "feelalo" all over again though.

It's most likely my favourite one released so far though. I actually liked it, rather than finding excuses to think it was just ok.

is he saying that no record company gave him more than $1M since 2007

i have no idea why anyone thinks dry clearly inorganic consistent velocity and timbre sampled snare is good. but i guess that skool of thot gave us this shitty numetal riff too

even if porcelina 2 came out after that preamble it would be harder to enjoy given it's made by someone so bitter and obnoxious

This song reminds me of the Toadies for some reason. It’s one of the better rockers on the album but geez the vocals are way too loud. When is this guy gonna realize his voice needs to be behind the guitars? If you have an aging voice you’d think you wouldn’t want to put it front and center for all its deficiencies to be clearly heard.

some of you have your heads so far up your cynical asses that you missed the part about him saying this is a cover band covering old school SP.

I mean, talk about fodder for ridicule.

It's important to keep in mind that most people are just going to listen to the songs without their context within the "story." Musically, they just aren't strong enough.

That's why I said he should have released Atum alongside whatever accompanying visuals he has in mind, because that way the entire project could be better understood from the beginning.
