Ehh. This is a band that should have just stopped. Dave’s got a bigger ego than what people have always accused Billy of too.

True that. Dave and his ecumenical attitude can fuck right off.

Yes compared to latter-day SP it is definitely listenable but that's not saying much tbh. Ghostemane is Mozart if you put his work against the ATUM

Is this an AI generated Foo Fighters song? It might as well be.

Exactly. And they're all mediocre. I'll take the highs and lows, for the sake of the highs.

It's pretty good. Foo Fighters were a breath of fresh air for the first 3-4 albums adding some pop and lightness to 90s alternative, and the debut album and Color and the Shape definitely have to be included for any definitive 90's rock list regardless of people's feelings about them. Dave has opted to make straight ahead rock that is baggage free and entertains people, and is good to his band and his fans. It's no shock that they have the popularity they have.

anyone read his autobiography?

My takeaway was that Grohl is a creepy and self-serving fake.

The one thing we should have learnt from billy by now is that they're ALL false idols.

Agreed. I saw a show on the first 95 tour and they were amazing. Are the first two albums Siamese Dream/Mellon Collie level? I don't think so, but some probably think Color and the Shape is at that level.

Haven’t read it. But what about the book reinforces that? I already think that about him anyways. He’s ten times the megalomaniac that anyone has ever accused Billy of being.

Yep. The last Rolling Stone interview with Taylor pretty much confirms that. He said that he didn’t want to go back out on a world tour and that it puts him in a 24/7 state of constant anxiety. He said he enjoyed being home with his family during the pandemic. It sounded like he was over the band, but felt some weird sense of obligation to Dave. Ultimately we saw the end result of the self-medicating he did. I hated that he seemed to be forced back into touring and then Dave got to be the hero with the tribute concert after he died. Fuckin asshole.

it's kinda wild that this dude can drum on a Chamberlin level but so much of the dialogue around him is on his dumb pop rock band that occasionally has an okay single

like holy shit, his performances on QOTSA, Killing Joke, obviously Nirvana albums are so god tier but you know, "Everlong"

it's like if Jimmy & Gavin Rossdale were the same person or something

Let's just say that a lyric video is a poor choice for these lyrics. The song is alright.

yeah

for me the book (which I found to be a strange self-mythologizing work) reinforced the megalomania you bring up. Before I read it, I thought he was just a goofy and likable (if not a little bland) rock'n'roll dude. The tone and content of the book exposed that impression as nothing but strategic artifice.

I liked some of the harder songs from the first Foo Fighters album. Some of it even had touches of Nirvana. But I lost interest after that. I think the success of Big Me was the beginning of the end for me, causing them to lose their edge on follow up albums and chase after a more commercial sound.

There's this whole demographic of people that think FF is actually better than Nirvana.

Hell, even Dave probably thinks he's a more accomplished songwriter than Kurt.

Ehh, I'm happy to not be a part of that demographic. Foo Fighters are more commercial and radio friendly than Nirvana. I'll take the raw emotion and sound of Nirvana.

Yeah I see that all the time in fb comment sections. Dave is just Paul McCartney 2.0
Talented but with that same phony nice guy media image while hiding a ruthless ambitious ego under the surface. He can write a catchy tune sometimes, but lacks the depth of Kurt much in the same way that Paul couldn’t really hold a candle to John.

Wait, whoa, whoa, whoa. Easy now, chief. Macca is the shit!

Also John was without a doubt the biggest egomaniac of the two. He also broke up the Beatles, the bastard. Let's all jump on the #TeamMacca wagon c'mon
