good lord i was kidding, how would i know what a "white stripes electroclash" album would sound like - that's not even what i was suggesting, just the 3rd time someone insinuated words i flat-out didn't say

who fucking cares

i mean god forbid i make a semi-critical comment on the fucking white stripes after basically getting a "WELL NO ONE ELSE LIKES THAT ALBUM WHAT'RE YOU GONNA DO NOW?" reaction after defending an album i liked

what is this shit

I mean this "opinion" is just straight up incorrect. The White Stripes most certainly did not stick to the samey sound for six albums. First three were generally straight garage rock. Then they did bluesy shit for a couple and then finished their career with weird blues pop bagpipe experiments like fuck off

Listen to de stijl and icky thump and tell me they are identical

or get behind me satan

great point i hadnt considered that i just reckoned that white stripes made delicious hamburgers but never pizza, very few bands succeed when they decide instead of making hamburgers they want to make pizza. raidohead went from hamburgers to pizza, billy corgan made a smorgasboard for one album you get the drift. ultimately what im trying to say is that ws were very specifically making almost nothing but hamburgers, and if they did it well, how is "well you didnt make any pizza" a valid criticism? sounds like a yelp review to me

pizza/hamburger metaphoe (c) and TM black francis

The analogy fails where you wouldn't expect a burger joint to introduce a new burger and promote it as such even though it's pretty much the same as the previous burger

same. or very rarely. I think there's like maybe 2 or 3 albums i consider to not have one bad song on.

anyway, despite sorta nostalgically getting into the record again earlier this year, i think i have to say Postal Service. I actually hated them at first though. Then liked. Then hated again. I mean it's twee bullshit. Its really not the music i mind either, just the lyrics.

anyway clearly most stuff i listened to as a teen would qualify.

And before i came back to this forum i had several years of my life when i actually felt pretty much 99% of SP's music was godawful shit that i didnt know why i ever listened to. Netphoria reconciled me with a lot of it though.

That's a great point. I don't think a group like the Strokes would have been a "hot commodity" if it wasn't for the growing ridiculousness of Nu-Metal. White Stripes are a far superior band, but the nu-metal crap really allowed them a platform.. Otherwise they would have been just a blogger band or something

You never answer this: it's like you believe that all the music writers on the Internet are part of n undefinable conspiracy to promote music that would never make it on their own.

I don't personally like them at all, but if we're going by artistic merit they're definitely a lot more authentic than some bullshit like the Strokes.

I think it's a lame artist that for whatever reason gets all sorts of mega-publicity on one of these "mega blogs" and ends up getting notoriety based off of that alone... And a lot of these popular music blogs roll with a kind of pack mentality... If one blogs covering a perceived "hot commodity" you can be sure the other ones gonna try and jump on the bandwagon too.

It's lame as hell.
