wow. I have ALWAYS noticed this and it drives me crazy. My brother used to do it when I was a kid - I just stopped eating cereal to avoid being near him at the table. My wife does this too, but not as bad.

it's always bothered me, but i have NEVER encountered someone who is as blatantly offensive with it as my current roommate (ONLY FOR ONE MORE WEEK HELL YEAH). and i thought i was maybe overreacting, but everyone else who has ever eaten with him says the same thing.

it's horrifying.

last night he was eating fucking RAISINS while i was trying to sleep and i wanted to fucking kill myself.

eating frantically is one thing. i know people who do this and look kind of odd sometimes while doing it. i'm sure i do it sometimes too. but for the most part, they keep their excitement within themselves and successfully limit the amount of noise that reaches people in the surrounding area.

my first girlfriend used to always point out when i chewed with my mouth open. or loudly. it would bother the hell out of her and she'd flip out and leave the room.

so now i usually eat in solitude.

though what bothers me more is not so much the sound of chewing but when they respire like they're running a fucking marathon. especially when they call in to work and it's right in your ear.
