i dig southpark but its not the best
it tends to get too stupid sometimes (remember the crab people episode? christ that was fucking dumb) and although theyre self concious, the episodes are still very bad at times.
sometimes its sheer brilliance though.
i think the first 10 or so seasons of the simpsons beat southpark, if only because of the amazingly complete "universe" the series has created... its hard to believe its all made up, so many characters and places that just gel into one big unit. i think thats admirable.
i am also tempted to suggest malcolm in the middle because its really funny sometimes

south park has been way too inconsistent for the last several years, they've had some really good ones and then some really bad ones and even more average ones. It used to be much better.

You could argue that SP depends too much on Cartman but I think they've done a really good job of using all of the other characters as well. Also, South Park explores alot more diverse settings (which the freedom of animation allows) and again has much grander scemes and jokes, while still managing to capture some of the office's dry humour at times, in between all of the siliness.

I enjoyed the crab people, they completely came out of nowhere and were probably better than any other stale humor you could wring out of the whole Queer Eye metro thing.

I completely disagree, the show is much richer and deeper in the last few seasons than when it began.

South Park relies on Cartman far more than The Office relies on Michael Scott. Sorry, but you are incorrect here and perhaps you should watch more episodes.

South park is funnier, more entertaining, better characters, grosser, weirder, etc.

I think they did in earlier seasons, but I've seen every episode, and there are many in the last few seasons where Cartman's story is the main storyline, but there are also many episodes where Cartman hardly even makes an apperance or is never seen at all. I don't think the Office could get away with that with one of its main characters. It would be like Watching Seinfeld and having Jerry of Kramer barely in the episode.

Also regarding the office, South Park has this huge rich world that even extends to heaven and hell and god and satan and stuff, and an amazing continuity that has kept some great gags running for 10 seasons, which I don't think either Office can touch.

I haven't seen Weeds, but I bet South Park is better. I LOVE Pete & Pete, it has some great ideas, but it was very limited because of its young audience, and I don't think it ever really got to achieve the wierdness and subversiveness that it wanted to (using Iggy Pop was genius though). Arrested Developement is one of my favorite shows, it's hilarious, and all I can really say is that South Park had higher highs than AD, and had alot more time to develop a rich chronology. AD was robbed, oviously, when it was cancelled.

eh, I never liked this show as much as other people. I admire its frenetic pace and wierdness, but South Park has more likeable characters and is more diverse in its comedy and plotlines IMO.

Me:

1. Arrested Development --don't care that it's not on the air anymore.
2. 24
3. SouthPark
4. The Office

See above for AD. I don't like 24, I think it's melodramatic, contrived, and cheesy, especially the acting. I admire its cinematic visual style I guess.

Also, no matter what you can say, nothing could top Simpsons in their prime. Everything you've said in regards to South Park applies to the Simpsons, even amplified!
