IMHO he was talking about the super-dumb riff-rock that is in songs like cash car star or everlasting gaze

that's the mountain reference - just 70s riff rock

I remember Machina having much less riffs in general - songs are mostly chord progressions - but the songs that do have riffs are super bone-headed and heavy-handed

that's the joke

it's not too hard

I dunno about the joke cuz I have a hard time believing Billiam was in a humorous state of mind in the machina era, but that's a great insight.

I do wonder however how much of it is just Billy's athlete mentality competing with the wave of nu metal at the time. It's like he was into that detuned 2-3 note riffing and wanted to be the best there ever was at that and the everlasting gaze acapella rant was in fact just testing the waters for his rap flow
