I'm one of the biggest G+TGC (post 1999) haters alive, but I'd take that over Set The Controls any day of the week.

I'd rather hear Geek USA. Stop whining. If you don't like it, stay home watch porn.

I'd also, rather catch someone watching porn on an iphone during Set the Controls than hear Geek USA. That would be some funny shit.

you know you should just give up when fans in attendance would rather watch porn on their iphones than listen to you play a 15 year old song.

hmm was awesome, albeit bloated, prior to the august tour. at the august tour it was trimmed down but sounded too tight and mechanical (sorta ironic i guess). for what i'm talking about, listen to the opening part (we all need our heavy metal dream/scream/whatever) and compare one from the euro arena tour to aug tour. it sounded no more enthusiastic than a single.
set the controls is an ok cover but honestly, it's kind of boring. i mean, sure you can play birdcalls and use timpani's and rub your guitar on them and do a barrel roll but it still wont change the fact that the other 90% of that song is still boring. gossamer, where are you? |

Set The Controls was awful. If I hadn't known it was so near the end of the set I would have had to walk to the back and sit down, my back was killing me by that point. SO LONG. It didn't help that the band was two hours late coming on with no explaination, blah.
That said, it was the best SP(2) show I've seen. (Charlottesville) |

I loved 07 GAtGC, I actually prefer it to the 00 version. I don't particularly care for Set the Controls though.

Set The Controls wouldn't be bad at all if they trimmed 5-10 minutes off it.

my bloody valentine literally plays the same note for 25 minutes and nobody bitches.
the pumpkins play a 20 minute cover (let alone a 9 minute re-imagining of their own song) and everybody cries. |

I saw them two nights in a row, the second night at a music festival with a much shorter setlist. I loved Set the Controls the first time, but they played it again at the music festival along with United States & Cash Car Star, which was overkill.
I love the live recording of Glass that I have, mostly because of Jimmy. He totally got shafted at the Scream awards - the camera barely glanced at him. Keep rocking Jimmy! |

The whole point of the noise holocaust is the loudness and sensory immersion. Set the Controls, when I saw it (Davenport) contained neither. If Billy were playing actual drone/noise, I'd be singing a different tune. But Set the Controls sounds like ironic/parodical wankery that just goes on way too fucking long. edit-also MBV actually has decent visuals during the holocaust.
