Nirvana was good, but they were not great. And for the record, outside of their fan-base, no one cared about the Pumpkins until 1979 and Tonight, Tonight were playing everyday on MTV and on the speakers at Abercrombie.

Nirvana was good for the few years that Cobain was alive. The Pumpkins have been making music for around 15 years.

Shh.
If you're quiet, you can hear Cobain rolling over in his grave. |

.................................................. ..................
k, i'll try to make this quick........
The pumpkins were (and are) a better band than Nirvana -in my humble opinion- in virtually every way. The bullshit about them (Nirvana) 'burning out and fading away' is fucking retarded for several reasons: first of all, people don't burn out AND fade away...they do one or the other. they're opposites. Ever heard the phrase 'I'd rather burn out than fade away..'? Anyway, Nirvana didn't have time to start making music that pissed everyone off for being too different from what they'd done in the past (or too similar, for that matter.......that's the catch 22 of a career that lasts several records). They just had time to make an insanely successful major label debut, then follow it up with a record that was almost universally panned by critics...and didn't sell very well.....then they were gone. Nirvana was out of the game before people could REALLY start questioning their staying-power. They weren't faced with being forced to try reinventing themselves, while simultaneously managing to NOT alienate old fans. As for the 'revolution' thing.......ALTERNATIVE MUSIC WAS A REVOLUTION, NOT JUST NIRVANA. The shit about Corgan 'failing solo-wise' is fairly mindless too. What did he fail to do. He made the record. ummmm...toured on it. Where's the failure? Are you refering to the sales? That's a really unmusical reason to deem any record a 'failure'. Did you just not like the album? Do you brand everything you don't like as a 'failure'? I don't want to be misunderstood here, Nirvana was a great and important band; I'm not denying that. I just happen to disagree with pretty much everything you (the thread-starter) said........but that's just me.. |
