so far Jambi doesn't really sound too much like Lateralus. i mean, i guess it could be on it. but it's different enough for me.

Vicarious is the only sound that comes close to sounding like it could be on lateralus.

guns n roses were a fun band. not too much dread or gloom, unlike tool who can only write depressed and lame sad songs. guns n roses got laid

vicarious really isn't a proper way to judge the rest of the album. i like a lot of the timbres and textures they conjure up. intension might be one of the best tool songs i've heard. melodically though, the whole just seems to meander very aimlessly and i think it suffers. honestly a lot of these riffs sound like things i came up with myself but never bothered to use because they sucked, or it was obvious that i was writing a riff for the sake of writing a riff. that's what i get. from a lot of the guitar and basslines. it feels like they wrote the riffs to satisfy an odd time signature instead of to fulfill a greater more meaningful vision they had for the song.

i'm warming up to this album some but its still find it inconsistant and some songs aren't very interesting.

the album is great. seeing jambi live is going to be an experience i'm looking forward to. far too short though - they seem to have more filler tracks here than ever before. but sweet tool never the less.

there's still some epic song within a song shit going down here, and i'm liking it, regardless of how good this weed is.

on the official tool site people were convinced it was a decoy album because it didn't sound like tool.

that place made the SP board look like a mensa meeting.

for a band less than half of netphoria actually admits to liking, this thread is getting rather long.

Shit. That just shows the intelligence of Tool fans. As if Tool are smart enough to make a decoy album.

mhmm

I don't know why any of the people here (save the Tool fans...which number maybe 6) downloaded it. Just to have something else to bitch about? I dunno.

Unless something changes drastically down the line, this will be far and away my least favorite Tool album. But that doesn't mean it's bad. What I like about Undertow, Ænima, and Lateralus is that while they all sound better in their entirety, it is very easy to pop them in and skip to a track you just feel like listening to. As far as I can tell, 10,000 Days is something you need to really take time to digest. Which in a way is good....it's just not a very versatile album, I don't think. but this is after like 2 listens. And there are too many of those goddamn interlude things.

Vicarious and Jambi just straight up rock though.

yeah, it's one of my favorite experiments... one of the few Joel episodes I really crack up at.

yeah, that's one thing about the Joel years... the host segments tended to be better. the best one I've ever seen was the re-enactment of the Cave Dwellers opening credits.

i guarantee you that there's a vast number of netphorians who enjoyed aenima and lateralus but just got "over it". naturally, they were excited if tool could manage to grab their attention again. half approving their fears (that tool just won't develop), half not-being-willing-to-be-proven-wrong, they bitch about it YET downloaded it anyway.
