Ogilala revisited
I picked up a (pink) vinyl copy of Ogilala last weekend. It was new and had been discounted over time from $25 to $15 to $10.
I can't say I like it all that much. It gets repetitive like a lot of his newer stuff, BUT it wasn't embarrassing to listen to and several of the songs (looking at you Processional) are quite good. Is/was this the best thing he has done in years? Is Processional the best Corgan/Iha studio recording for SP4? I wonder if that was as good as it was going to get, as they were both happy to be working together again in '16 and '17. |

Agreed
Processional is really good. Minus the vibrato, it's Aeroplane-level, which is intended as high praise. The piano drop is perfect.

Archer is the best song on that album. So no.

Archer yes, but with most of the sp4 crogan-solo stuff there's no desire to listen to it agsin. The vibratos are unbearable...
His voice was really unique, but his new style and mix makes most compositions worse or annoying |

Aeronaut and Amarinthe are also highlights.

OGILALA will be best known for its title and cover looking like Corgan's first record for KIDS and him pissing off another record company by insisting on a name change from his artist name to his real name -even reduced to the first letters...

I like it a lot. Real dad vibes, first time I've related to His songs as an adult. Could've done with more sonic variety but it is what it is. Important record as it marks the start of His artistic and commercial (there was a genuine indie groundswell) resurgence.

I was wondering how long it would take before the phrase "genuine indie groundswell" popped up

Dad vibes? Mike Kinsella is real dad vibes! Ogilala is just overpriced Grandma's meatballs.
