Looking forward to the clip from the end of ruby. I wish there was en extended version of the outro to farewell and goodnight. It's one of my favorite parts of the album. It still makes me sad the album is ending when I hear it.

it's all seems to be really good and worth buying but the price of the deluxe edition better drop to a two-digit figure (US$/€).

This. The coda at the end of Farewell is actually MCIS played backwards which is a very fitting end to the album, IMO.

They actually could of mixed it with the Nighttime version of MCIS for an epic version of the song.

Special Tea: 11-Eye (Soundworks demo)

This is a real surprise track. It’s a three and half-minute demo of excellent sound quality. Starting with a piano intro that feels as if it is in the distance background. The song has the completed lyrics. Billy’s vocals are a little rough at times but the highlight is at the end of the song when he mimics the choir. This demo is a great example of a songs early beginning.

Morning Tea: 04-Zero (Synth mix)

The song starts with hi-hat or tambourine beat for 3 seconds and then begins like normal. The sythn mix adds a swishifying effect to the song. Billy singing style only varieties a little from the normal version of Zero at certain points. What is missing from this take is the wild guitar work that you normally hear after “..i never let on that i was down”.
sounds like this could be an entirely different take not just the original plus synth

Guessing because of hi-hat start and no solo?

i wonder if it's the same version that's in the movie. i may be misremembering, but i seem to think the version in the scene in lost highway was slightly different than the soundtrack. i'd also rather hear the lost highway version of "tear"

So you are forgetting the difference between an alternate mix and an alternate recording all together?

You mean a hi-hat count-in that is probably on the mastertape we all know, but just mixed out--a common practice for studio recording?

Reznor (or probably David Lynch himself) add echo/reverb to the common version, to make it seem like the song was being played in the club.

If the instrumentation is the same, but certain parts have been removed or jacked up, and there's a new vocal take, is that a new mix or a new recording?

It would indicate it's an alternate mix of the same recording.

are you sure it's just that? it has slightly different lyrics and the vocal take seems different too. he sings "is it any wonder i can't sleep" twice in a row instead of "all i have is all you gave to me" and whatever word that is sung right as the music kicks in (seems like just at the end of a verse) has a sound that doesn't match the final word of any of the verses. the vocal delivery just seems different to me at points, beyond any added echo/reverb. give it another listen.

it depends on how you're looking at it i suppose

if you're looking at vocals - a different vocal take is considered a different take

also - if its just the same old version + synth, why switch out the finished vox with what could only be determined as a scratch vocal?

i'd be willing to bet its a different guitar take as well which would explain a different vocal take - both (vox and guitar) were recorded at the same time and in this early working version there is a synth mixed into it.

unless the vox isn't that different of course. how much we don't know. it could just be missing all the overdubs/punch-ins just like with the guitar channels

Huh well whattaya know, I've never noticed that before!

Also note that the chorus has the drum machine in it, where the s/t version it is muted. I would say you are correct, this is an alternate mix... OR David Lynch heavily re-edited the song itself to fit into the scene, which is something I wouldn't put past him. If you know anything about his film making, he personally does the sound editing and song writing, and often weird shit (subliminal messages, intentionally inappropriate volumes, etc) and possibly he wanted to restructure the song to fit those 20 seconds or something (editing the chorus so Corgan isn't singing a line Lynch felt didn't apply to the characters, sampling the drum parts at the end and putting them on top of the chorus to keep the beat for the nightclub, etc.).

But that is really interesting, I've never noticed it before. But thinking of Occam's Razor, you're most likely right. But I don't know if this is what we're getting on the remaster...

The remaster of the album proper does not appear brickwalled if the watermarked promo is anything to go by.

"Special Tea: 17-Pastichio Medley (Reversed extras)

43 seconds of snippets mashed together. Most of tracks are from Pastichio Medley. Some of which the recording is normally and others that are played backwards."

TOTALLY WORTH THE 150 $ DUDE
