local hit from the 80's that wont get out of my head. you get a super 80s video too in bonus. Frontman rivals Kevin Rowlands (dexy's midnight runners fame) in best "christ, have a bath and a shave" look..

I remember in grade school (mid 80s) The Box was the hip band to like...

ive recently revisited their discography out of pure nostalgia, hadnt heard these songs in 25+ years. Third record was very popular here but is shit featuring obviously big sounding singles in the worst late 80s way with "let's all get along" lyrics and female backups in the chorus, fourth is super shit (they got told by american label, which was gonna try to make them happen in the US, to sound west coast...meaning big dumb hard rock, it failed hard enough for them to disband). First record (from which the song i posted is from) is surprisingly alright but with very average if not downright dumb lyrics..probably because like...french canadians... in fact on some songs the accent is more obvious and it's really distracting.

As for the second record....i can't find it even on soulseek. Which sucks because there's my fav song of them on it so its probably ok, also features arguably their biggest hit or at least the one they're remembered for now locally.

funny cause as new wavey as they sound, the front guy was always a prog guy and they came back in the 2000's with prog records (which i didnt bother checking cause eww prog). Also, for the trivia, he was in men without hats, another montreal band, before they had their hit with Safety Dance. In fact having been in MWH is what gave them a record deal and same producer. I feel they're a classic case of band that went to shit because they listened to the label, trying to reach for that golden ring when they should have just kept doing their thing, whether it gave them airplay or not. But tbh i also think that the average quality of the lyrics would have always prevented them from going much further. Even if yeah..madonna had a hit where the lyrics go "holiday, celebrate" for most of the song...

what i gather is that the 2nd album is probably the best - its never been reissued if no one can find a digital copy online. also if they are french-canadian the lyrics probably are a bit wonky if considering english is not their native languate - again trying to appeal to a larger audience.

this happened a lot in the 70s and 80s and hell even probably today. too many chefs spoil the broth.

yeah this is a great song, killer riff. too bad Ian Astbury is a shit. I mean, i like this song but i kinda have to make abstraction of him and his voice.

But we owe Billy Duffy for getting Johnny Marr to play guitar. Apparently he also encouraged morrissey to sing but the jury is still out as to whether that was a good or bad thing....

so pretty. that cover is gorgeous UNTIL THE VOCALS KICK IN. OH MY GOD HOW HORRIBLE CAN YOU MAKE SOMETHING THAT SOUNDS SO BEAUTIFUL. if this guy has down syndrome i'll be forgiving but really WHAT IS WRONG WITH HIS VOICE? otherwise it's really well done. tiny tim could've done no worse. this guy sounds like kermit the frog. who touched him? WHY DOES THIS HURT SO MUCH?
