good friend of mine suffers from it. lived with him through 4 years of college.. and my god the fucking excuses!! on top of that he likes to drink when he has his ''up'' moments.

I'm pretty close with someone who is manic depressive. It is incredibly frustrating and I fear that things aren't going to end up well for him.

same here.. i've actually prepared myself in some ways to hear bad news about him on a subconcious level.. he just gets worse everytime, but he's at a point where he's distanced himself in such harmful ways as to avoid help, and im better off keeping a distance.

overall it's sad though.

Maybe. He was never actually diagnosed with it but it seemed like the only explanation for his behavior. I had to stop talking to him entirely.

ditto on that too.. he hasn't been diagnosed but i am damn sure that is what it is... it's the only explanation.

The guy I know is cool for weeks/months at a time but then goes completely off the deep end into drugs/booze/debauchery. I am pretty prepared to get a call that he is in jail or dead at any time.

i know a couple, and they are incredibly hard to tolerate. i've wanted to strangle most. i eventually tire of them and cut off all contact and sometimes pray they get shot in a random act of violence.

man you guys think it's hard to deal with bipolar people as friends just imagine if one of them was your mother. least she usually takes meds but still. crazy mom coming to pick me up after i broke my arm and cussing at me and telling me she wishes i was never born while she drives me to the hospital wasn't really great for my self-esteem

my best friends mother is also bipolar and ive heard some incredible stories.. never saw it with my own two eyes though.. she seems like a wonderfully nice lady..

Freaking out and yelling at people for no good reason, being obsessive, being unbearably annoying in public and always making a spectacle of himself and yelling at people, random violent behavior from nowhere.

These symptoms fit with borderline personality disorder as well.

It's a tough thing to deal with. And it isn't something that you can just medicate away.

I felt bad for her but at the same time didn't want to have to tolerate her. She didn't seem to make much of an effort and almost seemed to enjoy letting herself go off the deep end.

I have a friend who is a therapist and he told me that the person eventually just has to come to the realization that they have a problem and need to work through it.
