They really softened and evened out the mix nicely. So much better. The belty choir is still there and distracting, bleeding the orchid was annoying. But it is a much gentler vocal mix.

But oh la la, here comes this lil minx of Neverlost and man, it is miles better. I didn't know there was an organ part. The words are very heartfelt and dreamy. Jimmy's snare crack and left handed rolls. When the semi distorted part comes in it is vintage pumpkins. Still no bass to speak of though.
this was worth rediscovering Neverlost.

Neverlost--->Stellar----> Ma Belle

Those are the closing tracks.

Zeitgeist the song could be the hidden track to sum up it all up.

Yeah I never really clicked with the outtakes but Neverlost > Stellar > MaBelle works a treat.

Ok so I listened up to United States this morning and now on the drive home I'm at Stellar but I just got home and don't wanna get out of the car.

Come On Let's Go is legit good now. Neverlost is like a brand new fucking song. There are all these little subtleties in it that I never even noticed. Death From Above is listenable. Man.

Billy wrote a good album and then destroyed it

I knew the one time I heard 7 Shades live it seemed like a pretty decent song but that was 3 minutes 13 years ago

In Neverlost at 1:32, Jimmy hits this tiny rim shot, tik, after that massive crescendo and snare roll. It's classic Jimmy, it could have been on accident but I think it was a choice.

I was also wrong about the bass.
From 2:21-2:35 there is an intricate great little bass run that I always thought was a synth line.

definitely on purpose. his snare touches are so, so excellent [he does a similar rimshot heavy part on Owata live] and that makes it so so so so so os fucking frustrating when he's recorded and processed to shit and the snare is just a dry fucking note the whole record

also i've officially now replaced ZG and MI in my iTunes with the recent better versions. the shittier old ones are now relegated to my 'smashing pumpkins extras' sections, called 'digital reference edition'

What surprises me is that the waveforms for the cassette rip of M1 are almost identical to the CD version, but there’s definitely a difference in how the drums and bass stand out a bit more. To me anyway.

(Yes I know listen with my ears not my eyes but I was curious lol)

i don't know if it's a placebo or what [and if it is, fine, that means i'm enjoying it more]

i know they have to mix differently because of the limitations of tape/vinyl, makes it less muddy and with less wanky shit because dIgItAl

It's because of the magnetic nature of tape.
It's because of how it's mastered and transferred.

So yes the sounds are there, even if you can't hear them.
But tape is such a way and the mastering of tape highlights and brings forth all of that warm gooey pie filling that otherwise falls on the floor when you have the digital copy.

It's because of the compressors, the processing, the mastering, and then the duplication of a tape made from a tape master.

it's annoying on insta that he'll give super cool, nerdy tech answers to obscure gear questions. but he has to be in the right mood and it has to be from the exact era that isn't appreciated enough. what was the pedal you used on One and All, or some shit

Can anyone suggest a way I can share goodies without having to DM everyone, as I can't post a link here and I have more to share?

Are the links getting automatically removed or have you been told to remove them? (I know that posting unreleased stuff is a nono because legal reasons™ but idk what the stance is on remixes/remasters and the likes)
