What was the hype for Smorz like in '97? Off the fucking charts. Rumors were just beginning to spread that Kelloggs was developing a s'mores-flavored breakfast cereal in their labs. I cannot tell you how many times a day I checked aintitcoolbreakfastcereal.com for updates. Days turned to weeks, weeks to months... the going rumor was that the graham crackers were reacting unpredictably with the riboflavin, and that so far, several good men had died trying to perfect the formula. For a while it almost seemed—this was a sacrilegious thought, but more and more Americans began to whisper it—that Kelloggs would never crack the code.
When Smorz finally hit shelves in 2003, I was a grown man. The time had passed. I recognized that they were superior to s'mores in every way, as proven by this commercial, but it was just too late for me. I eat Kashi now, responsibly, and joylessly. |

I remember going to my 3rd cousins house right after it was released. she had just gotten the cd and played it for me. I knew when I heard the beautiful to shiela that this record was going to be something special. different, but special. i went out and got my own copy and listened hundreds of times during junior year. it's a wonderfully bittersweet and nostalgic record for me.
