Default Billy appreciation thread

I know everyone like to harp on Billy and all... But lets be honest, he's definitely the last remaining of the alternative rock icons... You got guys like Chris Cornell embarissing himself in a midlife crisis making albums with Timbaland in a desperate attempt to stay relevant. You have guys like Eddie veddar forever in a constant stagnation of mediocrity. Guys like Green Day covering themselves in eye-liner desperately trying to appeal to the hot topic crowd.

And then theres Billy Corgan. Trecking through in countless creative journeys. Coming back with a bad ass sonic guitar journey with Zeitgeist... Sure his vocals may have waned a tad with age but listen to that guitar tone... Truly one of a kind. And you have to admire that he comes back doing his own thing not trying to appeal to any trends or anything. Zeitgeist in my opinion is a highly highly underated album. I mean what other albums kick that much ass that have been released in the past decade?

And then the tours... What other bands have a varied a set list as the Pumpkins? Once they came back the setlists were changing constantly with endless gems and awesome b-sides where as most bands stick to a boring routine setlist. Like who was expecting to see a show and be surprised with songs like STRTJ, LMGTWTY, with every light, home etc.

Now hes rocking a free album and releasing gorgeous box-sets... (my dads a vinyl collector and he was absolutely blown away by the beauty of the solstice bare e.p.)

and shit!!! the guy does intimate pre-concerts just for the die-hards showcasing his new music. What other band shows that appreciation to there fans?

I mean whether the mainstream crowd and media has catched on or not Billys been truly keeping things extremely interesting and exciting for the fans along on the journey and that has to be applauded. It almost does seem like a conspiracy to discredit Billy and what hes delivered to music... But that is the way of the twisted internet.... Bloggers like to downplay people that may rub them wrong way... Which is way its an inaccurate and biased portrayal of music.

Anyhow, Cant wait for the next song!

I was just listening to The Smashing Pumpkins song "Jesus is the Sun" and it brought up two questions in my mind. First, was Billy Corgan always at least loosely a Christian or am I misinterpreting the song? The second one, and the reason why I put this in the Philosophy and Religion section is how can one so sincerely believe in something that they can't be sure of.

Listening to the song almost brought me to tears, the emotions are so powerful. Being an atheist I can't understand how someone could love someone that they have never seen and have no proof of with so much power. All of the Jesus love and such doesn't make any sense to me.

Metaphorically I can see what Jesus represents, but a lot of Christians seem to claim that they have a personal relationship with him.

Dear Billy,

On rare occasions, you might be interested in a fan's input as to which songs to play at shows. Here's my preference, if you're ever interested: stop playing anything that was written prior to Zeitgeist. I don't want to hear it any more. Just new songs.

I hope this was helpful.

Thanks,
georgegranade

ps, hurry up and release some more songs

You know, I'd be more proud of BC/interested in SP 2011 if he took this approach.
If he doesn't play the hits people will not come to the shows though.

Basically he is screwed.

Hey comeon...You guys all know the post is true. He's done a good job of keeping everything interesting and exciting for the fans since the Pumpkins return. Maybe the Jimmy leaving thing rattled him a lot but he'll bounce back.
