Uh, heh, pretty sure everyone on the planet exchanges Christmas presents, dude

Like, do you think Santa discriminates? Is Santa antisemitic? I don't think so

Did anyone get any good or interesting gifts? I didn't ask for anything, but I received a few things, the most appreciated being a small dining table. Since I moved into this flat I've been eating my meals with the plate on my lap or, if there's a chance of spillage, on an upturned cardboard box. Now I have a decent table. Today I went out and bought some placemats and coasters.

That sounds good. Does your mood tend to dip a lot during the winter months then?

I think I remember hearing that they can be quite effective, but I really don't know much about SAD tbh. My depressions were never linked to daylight hours etc. as far as I can tell.

My wife bought me an X Box with Hellblade 1 & 2, and she bought me an Atari 7800+ with a dozens of games.

I bought her a couple of Toyo metal tool boxes. And a Savage Industries duffle. Savage industries is Adam Savage from Myth Busters

i know all about SAD. i got a little light at work (brand new at the salvation army, baby; still in the box) that I turn on in winter cause Chicago winters are brutal on the soul and my back from tensing up a lot. people always walk by and assume it's for video calls and whatnot. kinda sick of the same comments and conversation over and over. i say it's meant to simulate sunlight and improve mood, they ask if it works, and i say i don't know but it never hurts to try.

We made gifts for each other this year, within our family (husband and kids)

My kid who is now away at college 5,000 miles away (but was home for Christmas) made a Christmas star that comes apart into a few pieces, including bookmarks for each of us, that we use during the year and then return to the star at Christmas time when we’re all together. My other kid is learning C++ and wrote a program for me to answer all my questions about Microsoft products (possibly because he’s sick of me asking him haha). My husband made an alarm clock for me out of a raspberry pi, a number pad and then a wooden case he made. It plays “Mr Sandman” over and over with a famous quote read out in between each replay, when i turn it off it says “please get up now”

That's cool. I keep saying I need to get back into gaming. I say get back, but I haven't done any since my late teens really. I don't even have a console or anything. I used to really get lost in games, though, so it's something I'm sure I'd enjoy.

Yeah, it can't do any harm. Does the temperature get really low there in winter as well as the lack of sun?

My sister was saying at Christmas that she'd like to move somewhere where it's sunny pretty much all year long. I like summer, but I think I'd get bored of the same sort of weather all the time. I try to enjoy all the seasons as best as I can, and I like the contrast.

the only modern games I like are things like Hell blade, which is mostly a kind of puzzle maze. It's a little like the old Tomb Raider games. The boss fights I don't find any fun. I don't like RPGs. I don't like war or car games.

I have about 300 old Atari and Activision games on my Xbox and (cartridges) for the 7800. I tend to like those old style games better. I think because they're short. And I like to play for 20 or 30 minutes and then put them away.

There is so much of this stuff floating around on FB Marketplace on Ebay that it's easy to pick up even almost new consoles for a reasonable price.
