imo it's kind of a miracle KotH is as popular as it is

it captures small town texas down to a T... i'd think not many people would relate but it was internationally successful and ran 13 seasons

it's not like the trope of the redneck is completely unidentifiable to the rest of the world

i remember it being on pretty often when i was a kid, never seemed weird or anything that it was a relatively popular show

then again i'm not so far from texas

Western Australia especially I feel like resembles Texas a lot. It's a huge state with not many towns/cities, it's hot as fuck and kinda viewed as a little bit backwards by the rest of the country. Plus the capital is a national music hub. And the people view themselves as being of a different type to the rest of the nation. Dunno if I'm making generalisations about Texas but whatever.

King of the Hill was brilliant for a good stretch, but the last few seasons were pretty weak

Me too. Like a lot of things it took someone in my life who likes it a lot to get me to see the light. I think for one the Mike judge style of drawing really put me off at first.

Its interesting to me that the french canadian version of that show (meaning dubbed) was a total flop, and as far as i know, so is Family Guy. But Simpsons was a huge success.

It's not even like we don't have our fair amount of rednecks and hillbillies (i cant really explain why FG didn't work here though...but i'm glad). But it was probably still too far removed from our reality to work. Maybe if they did a show about northeastern america hillbillies...I mean when i read stephen king (which tends to feature a lot of those) i tend to feel its not too different from rural quebec, minus a few cultural differences. I have to say that anyone not at least a bit aware of southern, and particularly texas, culture probably wouldn't enjoy KOTH as much. Now i've never been to texas but i think i think i have a fairly decent idea how it is there... if nothing else i guess in part BECAUSE i watched KOTH....

to be fair now that i think of it though KOTH isn't actually about texas rednecks at all, just working class texans. I guess its just that even middle class texans seem a bit redneckish to outsiders...

Oh right. We have only one city and it accounts for 1.8 million of the 2 million people in WA

Home Movies is indeed the best, as far as improv/dialogue/character interactions go.

I used to make home movies all the time and I can definitely relate to Brenden, Jason and Melissa.

Bob's Burger has been my go-to cartoon the last few months; weirdly enough Archer doesn't interest me at all.

I'm a huge fan of Harvey Birdman, but everything I've seen of Archer has not inspired me to go and watch any more of it.
