Well all you do is watch complete shit because it's obscure. It's not even good obscure stuff it's like walmart dollar bin dreck.
I mean when you pick up a Brecken Meyer movie do you actually think it's going to be the slightest bit good? I mean really? |

And I'm actually kind of starting to hate all the gushing praise for No Country. It's like people were late to really notice the Coens a decade ago so now there slobbing knob because the movie! It's so awesome! I don't get it! THat's what makes it great!

It's ok. I don't hate you for it.
I have a review instead: I AM LEGEND: Ah. Hollywood. Make a movie that's engaging for the first half even though it pretty much wholesale ripped off the rage zombies from another movie, and just completely ram it into the ground like a fallen plane full of soccer players would crash into the Andes. While No Country seems to purposefully leaving me out of the loop to a certain extent, I Am Legend leads me down roads with no destination towards a frenzied, Hollywood make-me-happy ending. So many questions left unanswered. Why on earth would de-evolutionized humans have a leader? Why would they be wearing clothes? How come they want that one Will Smith kidnapped so bad? Why don't they sound human when they scream? If you could have any sports car in the world why would you choose a Mustang? It's kind of sad in this day and age that this movie is actually decent comparatively and not summer blockbuster dreck. C. First half was good and it did almost make me cry. Poor wittle baby doggie. |

Raising Arizona - B+
It's weird to think that there was once a time when Nicholas Cage was in a movie and that did not automatically mean it would suck. |

I watched the first hour of avp2 last night and then fell asleep. It was going as I expected. Horrible acting (especially the kid near the start) and a couple of semi decent predator v alien fights. The predalien was silly though, I still think if they were doing an avp movie it should have had no humans in it at all, just predators talking with subtitles versus a bunch of aliens.
A guy at my work actually said to me "it's like they've taken the best bits from the alien and the predator movies and made a new film out of them!" |

As for stuff I've watched fairly recently: Fright Night - B- I don't know how I managed to go this long without ever seeing it. I have a soft spot for really cheesy mid-1980s horror-comedy movies, and this movie was a textbook example of the genre. It's not a great film, but I found it very entertaining. The Untouchables - B I'm not a huge fan of Kevin Costner or Sean Connery most of the time, but this was pretty good. Connery in particular was excellent in it. |

oh yeah i watched spies like us the other night
hadn't seen it before, it does have a handful of laughs and I suppose if you had watched it years back it may be a good nostalgia movie, but it really was pretty weak in parts, C- |

I see what you're saying now. I originally read your co-worker's description of the movie as more "Everything in the movie has been done before" than "Dude! It was awesome!" I can grudgingly give credit to the guys who made the movie for at least appearing to have at least watched and cared about the original movies and having that reflect at times in their movie. That's what I meant when I said that's about the best you can say about it.
But as far as the acting, script, direction, etc. that you need for any movie to be considered even decent? Yeah, AvP:R was a little lacking there. I actually think a montage clip of all the cool parts from all the previous Alien and Predator movies might have made a more cohesive and well acted film. |
