It actually kind of bothers me seeing people outraged at MM behavior that makes him look like a boy scout compared to what his reputation has blatantly been all along (and how he's shamelessly presented himself). It's like...so now, we care? I think it's something about the self-unawareness of the contradiction that worries me. And this isn't the first time.

This is a safer take on the original Encre Noir and as a result is a less interesting version of itself. The original was a raw cypress/vetiver punch in the face, pure and simple, and that was part of the appeal. With this flanker they have added citrus to the top notes and an aquatic smell that pervades the perfume at every stage. When you combine the original scent profile with citrus and water it doesn't enhance as much as dilute the better parts of the cologne without adding anything special. It's pleasant but it can either be read as an off-melon smell or possibly as fresh sweat as it ages. It isn't a sharp, sweet citrus and the root vetiver musk cashmere combination is much weaker. It's leaning masculine but could pass as a unisex scent and it's not like a typical "sport" cologne. It would be much better if it had the staying power of the original. On my skin the original lasts all day but this will drop down to a skin scent within 2 hours. You will need to be more liberal with it. Imagine walking in the rain in a garden wearing the original and you'll have a good idea of what this one is. I don't recommend this one not because it's bad, but because a low-risk, lower performance version of a superior cologne sitting at the same price. Other brands have done "wet pine forest" better.

When you're 15, he's bold, confrontational, and an outspoken hero. The older you get, the more you mature, the more you realize what a tremendous asshole he is and always was.

I used to take stuff like the Rock N Roll N... cover as him being unafraid to smash boundaries, or whathaveyou. Now you can go on Mansonwiki and find his oldest bits of poetry and early songs and there's one that has him straight up saying "the black people all look alike to me" or somesuch. When you're a kid you justify it all to yourself by convincing yourself it's all an act.

These days I look at that cover as him having an excuse to sell his shock shtick with carte blanche to fire off racial slurs.
