Default good recent music videos

are there many? generally i think this has been a pretty poor decade for music so far and most music videos i've seen haven't been very imaginative, which is a shame because there was some really great stuff happening in the 90s. discuss/post impressive videos you've seen in the last few years.

i think we can establish as a general rule that almost every bjork/beck/corgan video is bound to be good. sp2 pending

video-wise bjork and beck are sort of on the same level, they work with alot of the same directors and its just magic. beck is less consistent than bjork, but then he puts out more singles anyway and makes alot of his own videos on a small budget.

as for billy, i thought the TFE stuff like walking shade was awesome and inspired. can't really say the same for zwan but that was a joke band anyway.

Ah ok man, I guess it's just a difference of opinion. I'm still totally with you on the Bjork vids though.

I actually kinda struggle to think of bands I like that have good vids. I'm sure there's some obvious ones but if I turn on mtv or something none of the music playing is stuff I listen to. We have a music station here called alt. tv that plays some great stuff, but a lot of it is live footage of the band playing, so not really a music vid in the proper sense.

its unbelievable really, just how little serious talents filters through into the mainstream, or apparently even the indie world these days. in fact, outside of the pumpkins, bjork and beck, i struggle to think of many bands who've been consistently inventive and doing something grand and individual. i suppose i agree about the white stripes though. the world is starved of really good new music, and until that improves, videos will most likely continue to stagnate as well.

Bjork has some pretty good videos, unfortunately half the time their appeal is based on the weirdness factor of her wearing some strange outfit. But yeah, there are basically no good music videos to be found on TV. There are a lot of interesting and well-designed music videos to be found just browsing youtube, it's hard to find good music with matching good videos though.

Animal Collective's Peacebone is pretty cool, even though I don't necessarily like the band that much:

Likewise with Goodbye by Asobi Seksu:

I don't really know when this video came out, but uh, cool stuff still.

i like gondry but hated the video for the denial twist.

to me it sounds like a really old song, and that was too modern and had way too much stuff going on. distracting from the song.

I don't like The Denial Twist either.

Dead Leaves And The Dirty Ground is amazing and my favorite by far

I like the simpleness of this video. Indeed the song is grasping at lack of self control, degeneration of society, urban gang ethic (has post-apocalyptic references as well). In any case the video with its jerky editting brings out this physical animal (the darkness kind of conveys the repression of the beast through fear, cut off devoid of reason). I think it identifies with the song very well.

Killing Joke - Loose Cannon

Yeah the innocent/malevolent edge is pretty cliche in the horror scene but I still think this video stays in tune with the visual side of what this band was setting out to do.

The Birthday Massacre - Blue

i know bjork has been mentioned, but specifically "triumph of the heart"

the dirty projectors made a video for every song on their album "the getty address", and this is called "time birthed spilled blood". the funk doesn't kick in until at about 1:00.

totally in love with the girl in that one, though

also that dirty projectors stuff blew my mind, thats some amazing animation- how did they get funding to do videos for the whole album?
