Agree with eviltimeban, except to say the drumming is appalling, and everything else sounds horrible… HORRIBLE. The vox, synths, drums, the way the music stops and starts so he can switch out instruments. It’s incompetent and unpleasant to listen to, and Billy deserves to be fucking embarrassed. This is Teargarden level shithousery. Take it down Billy boy. Lock it in the vault.

It's ok, I think.
The quiet guitar intro subs promising, but then the song happens |

"“It’s one of those pain in the rear end songs where I probably rewrote the song about five different ways and Howard Willing… kept telling me “this is a good song, keep after it””
Fuck you very much Howard |

It has a few Zwan elements. It reminds me of Yeah!, Come With Me and Heartsong

The robotic voice reminds me of the robotic voice in Come With Me. The backing vocals remind me of the backing vocals in Yeah and Heartsong like in the verse "But heartsongs (heartsongs)" X "but you don't feel (but you don't feel".

The second part of the podcast is completely messed up in terms of edition.
But as we were discussing Matt walker the other day, he did some programming on ATUM as well. |

one of the better soundscapes on the record
that's the first good guitar riff i've heard from SP in ages. vocals nauseate when they come in proper, though i appreciate all the effects on them oceania-level if not better BUT still at its core the same boring uninspiring complete fucking drivel he's put out over and over again since CYR. the middle 3-4 mins is the EXACT same complete word salad synth fucking nothing |

Well I stepped into an avalanche
It covered up my soul When I am not this hunchback that you see I sleep beneath the golden hill You who wish to conquer pain You must learn, learn to serve me well You strike my side by accident As you go down for your gold The cripple here that you clothe and feed Is neither starved nor cold He does not ask for your company Not at the centre, the centre of the world When I am on a pedestal You did not raise me there Your laws do not compel me To kneel grotesque and bare I myself am the pedestal For this ugly hump at which you stare You who wish to conquer pain You must learn what makes me kind The crumbs of love that you offer me They're the crumbs I've left behind Your pain is no credential here It's just the shadow, shadow of my wound I have begun to long for you I who have no greed I have begun to ask for you I who have no need You say you've gone away from me But I can feel you when you breathe Do not dress in those rags for me I know you are not poor And don't love me quite so fiercely now When you know that you are not sure It is your turn, beloved It is your flesh that I wear |

i find this song a lot less offensive than some of the other tracks from this disaster of an album but it's extra frustrating when there are hints of great stuff that just get completely thrown away. the guitar tone at the beginning of this song and the melody are just lovely.

guys the members of Zwan have NDAs you haven't signed a contract with Corgan you don't have to go through this anymore!!!
i put on Toy from Bowie (a posthumous release originally recorded around 30 yrs into his career) and it's really good. not every artist wants to shit on their fanbase auditorily (& otherwise) after 30 yrs in "the biz" it's a beautiful thing |

Like all the other songs, the vocals are sabotaging melody. He makes it impossible to get sucked into a moment. He'll add a word or phrase that disrupts a potential catchy moment, messily gluing parts together. That adds to how boring all these songs are.
And you don't need to do long curves from one note to the other repeatedly in every song ffs.. It all just sounds like he's singing in the shower FOR HIMSELF. |

I'm on the fence with this one. I love the intro, the overall vibe, jimmy's drums, ebow, etc. but yes, it's the vocal word salad bit that's getting me. he's talking about the choruses but i really can't find the chorus in this one.. and he's doing that thing where he's using some of the same vocal cadences he's used in recent songs, which is giving the songs a samey kind of feel no matter how differently he produces it.
whoever said it has a new order vibe was right, and that's a big part of what i do like about the song. |

the New Order comparison made me give in & listen
sounds like a Zwan album outtake but with that classic flavorless ATUM production the irony is that Bill actually did a song with New Order around the time Zwan was a thing, & it's fuckin' great. this is glorified "youth group" shit |

Yeah I hear the drum + fife thing with the guitar. He does that little hammer on thing. And the thing about choruses, I couldn’t even tell there was one chorus let alone the multiple different choruses he said were there.

This is the first podcast I have listened to since the first two episodes leaked. What in the absolute hell is any of this shit? Billy has literally lost his mind. I am a massive nerdy science fiction fan. This shit makes me want to bully nerds.
