i dont get why artists get so pissy about leaks. has anything, EVER, once it has enough hype to leak, actually suffered in sales? the files are for impatient fans who already bought it or fans who were never going to buy it anyway...

20 or so years ago, albums regularly leaked before being finished; I remember off the top of my head Hail to the Thief or Antics by interpol. For the artists involved I imagine that's less than ideal

zuzu employee lifts a copy from the back store before distribution
like label employees used to do back in the days. someone could break into a location where the masters are being kept. someone from the pressing plant could decide this is the "one release" he's willing to risk his job for - but it's only once, so he won't get caught. |

this may be stupid but like, when they make the master vinyl where do they get those tracks from? lots of pressings tout 'sourced from original master tapes' etc but what is the actual thing the master cutter is carving from??

Could be master tape mix-down. Could be hi-rez digital files. could be both.
Some mastering engineers will master to 1/2" stereo tape. |

According to this guy on Reddit, he contacted to Zuzu's who confirmed the 2LP edition of Machina will not have the original art booklet from the original release. Same cover and sleeve, but no booklet stapled on the inside of the gatefold. They done cheaped out.
