ST: Hip-hop
lately i've been really digging Atmosphere. Slug's voice shits me to tears, but some of the rhymes are sweet.
New Sage Francis kinda sucked, which is dissapointing cause his last two were really good. also - Aesop Rock - Labor Days is probably one of the best hip-hop albums ever. i dunno where this is going. |

I really like Atmosphere, but I haven't heard his new albums, which I heard aren't that great. I love Lucy Ford, God Loves Ugly and Seven's Travels. I love Sage but I haven't heard the new album yet, I'm hopefully going to get to see him soon too with Buck 65. I still have yet to really get into Buck 65 but I'm hoping seeing him live will click...some of his stuff is great and some I just can't feel. Atmosphere did the live band thing and the first time I saw him it was cool, but the second time it was kinda worn out. I was kinda upset because Brother Ali was so good opening for him and Atmos' show started off good but I got so tiring near the end. Brother Ali kicks much ass, I'm regretting not going to see him last Saturday. I've seen him live a few times and the only problem he ever had was one show seemed kinda too rushed and the sound was kinda bad. But his words are amazing, he always does a spoken word acapella thing and it's always really moving. I still haven't heard his new album yet either! RJD2 did the live band thing too - his latest album he took a totally different approach...with vocals and real instruments. I loved the album but we saw him live last Friday and it was kinda disappointing. I just hope he doesn't do the live band thing on his next tour because the band sucked. They kept switching up the instruments so it seemed like they never really got into it till the end. They played some of his DJ songs with the live band too and they totally mutilated them. Although once they started finally getting into it (the last few songs) they played The Horror with the band and they actually rocked that one out. But RJ, please stick with the turn tables because those idiots make your music mediocre. |

public enemy and 36 chambers and MF Doom and compilations of early 80s NY/CT rap are all i listen to anymore
well i like clouddead but i pretty much consider them like experimental ambient even though theyre technically "rapping" |

And since you seem to care - Mark hated hip hop of any sort before I met him. Except Blackalicious. He got me into them. You sure got me. |

aesop rock is pretty good. float is an amazing album, but i haven't gotten around to listening to anything else. i used to like atmosphere when i was first getting into hip-hop, but it sounds kind of cheesy to me now. the "se7en" album was pretty shitty and i have no desire to listen to any of his new stuff.
at the moment, i'm into grime, dizzee, kano, etc. that stuff gets me pretty pumped. also, i've had "ready to die" on repeat for the past couple of months. nas is ok, don't get me wrong. illmatic was a great album, but i got his second one and it was pretty lame. so, i have no desire to go any further with him unless you have some suggestions.

murs is good
"Any white boy who thinks he knows my struggle Cause he listens to Pac and his adrenaline doubles Now I ain't got problems with you being yourself But when you front and use the N word, it just don't help I might not trip, and your friends'll laugh at you But I know some real niggaz that'll straight up slap you" reminds me of Trotsky.
