Many layers to a stupid nickname.

The random capitalization? Because why the f--- not.

Did anyone here actually scoop up all the reissues, like, as in, put down money for them?

I only did Gish and Siamese Dream. Couldn't afford/justify the MCIS re-release and beyond.

I bought all of the boxsets on CD. Quite like the packaging, especially the Mellon Collie and Aeroplane sets. I think they're quite worth it... Adore too.

I wonder why Aeroplane and Adore were not released in 24 bit like the rest. Annoys the crap out of me. I want them in 24 bit, damnit.

I wonder where I could get the SMASHING PUMPKINS in 24 bit at all nowadays except MELLON COLLIE.
And with infinite sadness you then may get informed that it's not being sold to Europe.

Those who can't hear a difference between 16 and 24 Bit should test if they need a hearing aid.

another good moment was when i found an online shop that sold the mcis reissue box set for 20 euro. it was a typo and they meant 200, but they had already sold and sent me the box set before they realised. booya!

Oh wait, I remember something about this being posted on the O-Board. By the time I caught wind, they had already fixed the error.

nah, that was probably amazon canada offering the vinyl box set for $27, for some weird reason. a lot of people got one of those.
i don't think the cheap cd box set (i believe it was on an austrian webshop) ever got a lot of publicity.

When it's properly mixed and mastered, hell yeah you can hear the difference. Sadly most albums are ruined due to the loudness war. But a well mixed and mastered dynamic album sounds quite amazing in 24 bit.

It's how you're listening to the music and what you're listening to the music on. You're not gonna experience the benefits on crappy car speakers or listening to it on the train with $14 overpriced Beats headphones in the middle of activity. For a proper, at home music listening experience, I highly suggest 24 bit. It's not about hearing some mysterious, unheard sounds. It's about what lower bitrates causes audio to do and how frequencies will compete with each other and how spatial/atmosphere effects as well as high/low frequencies start to degrade. But if a mix/master is blasted to shit, then no bitrate no matter how high will save it. For example, I'm a huge Deftones fan and they recently re-released all of their albums in 24/96 with newer bits and elements added, but the remasters were horribly, horribily brickwalled. They are painful to listen to. As much as I want to hear these albums in 24 bit, I just cannot listen to them and stick with the originals.

Just because you downloaded a 24 bit audio file, doesn't mean you're hearing it in 24 bit, especially if you're playing it on your computer. You need to make sure your sound card settings are correct and also make sure your music player can properly play it. For example, I had to go into my sound card settings and changed the playback to 24/192, which will actually lower the volume of your computer slightly. I also have WinAmp for playing music, which has an option that you have to activate for 24 bit playback. Foobar 2000 is another great player. Hell, even later Samsung Galaxy phones can play up to 24/192 as long as you get a the right app. for example a $4 app Poweramp will let you play 24 without downgrading the audio. If you don't look into your settings, your computer and your phone will be downgrading the audio behind the scenes to standard 16 bit playback.

Invest in a DAC as well. They have ones for computers to help isolate your audio from any interference from your comp's power supply. Pick up a decent pair of headphones like Audio Technica ATH-M50Xs for $160 and some decent speakers. I like to use my Tannoy Reveal 802 studio monitors that I use for my own production. Working with music and production definitely helped open my ears to what to look for. As a music lover, I want to have music in a form that is not altered or downgraded in any way shape or form. I want to have and hear the closest thing to what they heard in the studio. A 24 bit file is that. But that's just me. To each their own. But there is difference.

After I buy a bong an Alcest shirt and a Mono shirt I think I will turn my gaze towards a decent pair of headphones.
