Default Glynis Vox

I've been playing around with removing vox from the albums. While I can post those experiments another day, I thought this was particularly neat: if you remove all of the instruments from Glynis, there are almost impossibly high harmony vox that I couldn't hear at all before this. I don't think they're D'Arcy, so they must be BC.

There's already a fair bit of FFT mangling so FLAC is the best way to listen to this, but for those of you who don't want to bother I also made an MP3:

https://www.mediafire.com/file/yympt...svox.flac/file
https://www.mediafire.com/file/3jdbh...isvox.mp3/file
https://www.mediafire.com/file/pw97v...%2529.mp3/file

gotta say, i never thought isolated corgan vox would be nice to listen to but these are pretty awesome. i always assumed the high parts were just aftermath of a couple heavily effected vox tracks, but there's more parts than i realized.

Thumbs up

Listening to the actual vox file was pretty cool; thanks for doing this

Weird to hear all kinds of shit I'd never caught in a song I thought I knew really well

Thumbs up Sweet

This is really cool. Those "hidden" high vocals do sound like Billy. He was really on fire during this time. Thank you.

Please do more of these!

This is peak BC singing in my book; and part of the reason why I loved early SP so much - the massive guitar sound mixed with the soft sighing vocals.

I wonder can he even sing this way now?

Mean these vocals are not extraordinary at all.
He just sounds younger and no vibrato

I'm assuming this was done with the 2012 mix? Any chance you did this with the No Alternative version? Would be interesting to see how the ending vox sound there.

Glynis is one of my Top 5 fav SP songs and I wish the 2012 mix was just cleaning up the horribly produced NoA version and not adding changing the ending up. IMO, the total mood of the song changes with Billy's screaming and laughing in the new mix.

I've always thought the 2012 mix was a LOL at "just throw it all in the mix" with the heckling laugh. totally innapropriate for a song about aids, but that's the SP humor.... or he's jsut laughing about how rediculous his falsetto is.... either way it's a yawn.

Quote:
Glynis is about Glynis Johnson – bassist from the Chicgo punk band Friends of Betty – that later would die from AIDS related complications. The song was written for the compilation album “No Alternative” benefiting AIDS relief

I'm also a huge fan of Glynis and the laughing did absolutely ruin the song.

I don't think this sank in the first time I read it, but I love the, y'know, nuances this takes on when you say this here on Netphoria specifically

I can think of a few more vocals that need removing if you catch my drift!

Remove all the vocals from the recent albums.

Find a spot on Corgan-impersonator and get him (or her?) to redo all the vocals but sung in the 1993 style.

Then finally we can move on with our lives

this would be trivial to do, but also who gives a crap. better use of the technology = fixing raw soundboard recordings so the balance is tolerable

Wow, that was weird, and sort of scary.

Maybe the secret to Zeitgeist is to make an ALL vox mix, rather than trying to tamp the vox down. Then the Bolly choruses can lead the way.

Spending time tweaking the detection in iZotope RX or using something else? I'm using RX 8 and the defaults have never gotten me results this clean but I haven't spent much time trying to tweak them.

Thanks.
But also - be careful what you wish for.
Vox ZG should be the 3rd disc on the re-release, after a disc of BC explaining to JC how, even though they are the only two working on the album, only BC gets writing credits.

we've moved beyond RX 8, but let's just say that the principle is the same
