This stuff all just reminds me how essential JI is to the SP sound. His atmospherics and sound designs are so much more than "artsy" add-ons. It gives the depth to the music that makes it actually interesting and worth listening to. Iha might not be much by himself, and as we are constantly reminded, Corgan isn't much these days either. But when they work together on In my Body, Shame, Soma, etc. the results are sublime.

I am listening to Machina II this morning...shit takes me back. I'm not sure I've actually listened to it all the way through in a long time. Slow Dawn is such a gorgeous song. When he sings "awwwwwaaaaay" and the guitar hits the same note as his voice and then just rips into that solo...fucking beautiful

it's so SO fucking frustrating hearing iha rip on those live. he clearly had no input on recording, then a week before tour corgan sent him the setlist, he quickly fiddled around some parts, and it turned out AMAZING

there was clearly never any situation where they were all in a practice room for a month working on these. it's just corgan's shitty first drafts going through his own echo chamber of edits

The new Complex album is classic Jimmy with signature fills.

But in the Pumpkins? I'd say he hasn't degraded but his enthusiasm and his approach to playing has definitely degraded. He looks bored stiff.

But he is still a killer on the drums.
